Actually I believe our lack of veteran leadership is part of the problem. We only have 7 veterans who are 30 & above on this team:

Defense:

NT Ferguson (32) on IR, OLB Ellis (32) just back/starter, CB Henry (32) injuried/starter when healthy.

On offense:

LT Adams (32) starter, WR Owens (33) starter, WR Terry Glenn (32) injuried/starter, QB Brad Johnson (37?) backup.

Here's the list of our captains as voted by the players. Usually the team captains are veterans mostly over 30:

ST - Keith Davis (27)
Defense - ILB Bradie James (27)
Offense - QB Tony Romo (27) & TE Jason Witten (25)

The 90's team was filled with young leaders. The guys you named as leaders are also vet players 2 with Pro Bowl experiance. I would also add Ellis as one of the leaders who players look to. I don't think this team is lacking leadership nor do I think there is anything wrong with this team.

Surely, then, we'll be winning the Superbowl this year, no? ;)

Hm, I don't view 5-4 as the worst case scenario.

Teams which, by all accounts, we could lose to:
@ Phi, @Wsh, @NYG (only putting our away divisional games in here, but the ones at home we could just as easily lose...), vs. GB, @ Det, and @ Car.

So, really, worst case scenario would be 3-6 over the last 9, I think, and it's a very real possibility, given how our team handles the end of the season.

Yeah well... that is history. I wont relate the final game record to years past. Too many things are different.

I am going by what THIS team with the NEW OC and NEW HC and NEW DC could be capable of.

If we play less than .500 ball the rest of the way.... then you are right... things havent changed.

Maybe its just me.... I see us getting better as the year goes on THIS YEAR.

I don't know what will happen. I do know we have a good team who can challenge for the NFC title. I know the answer is not in making big changes it happens through hard work and getting through the season with as few injuries as you can. We can spend all day over analyzing this team but in the end it all comes back to the basics of hard work and playing together as a team.

Yeah... I think we are lacking in discipline a little.

More concentrated film study probably couldnt hurt.

We are a still a few players short... but we could advance by making up for it elsewhere.

Agressive play, know your stuff, etc..

I agree but I think the discipline to a certain extent it has to be self discipline. Coaches can do so much to stop false starts or holding in the end the player himself has to correct his problem. Right now we have played 7 games and we are ahead of what I thought we would be before the season started and with a lot more football to play and I think we will get better as we move forward.

Yes we are ahead. There are some glaring things like penalties that have to be corrected. I wish Wade had a little Parcells in him. A hybrid would do nicely now... coming off a bye.

As the season goes on and we play better teams... we may not always pull out the win in spite of those errors.

I think part of the reason for the false starts is because in some cases the opposing players are intimidating Flo and maybe even Colombo... so they are taking chances and its costing us.... I think that was evident in NE game... we were pressure/forced into some penalties

Thing is we had these penalties under Parcells as well. As for Wade I like how he is handling this team and the players are responding to him. Last week we had 5 penalties will that continue to be the case I guess we will find out but from what I see this team is buying into Wade Phillips and we are winning games. Like most teams in the league we still have things to work on and hopefully we will be playing our best football late in the season.

It's easy to forget that the Cowboys are working with a new head coach and new Defensive and Offensive coordinators. I take solace in the fact that the struggles teams usually have in similar scenarios normally take place at the beginning of the season. We came out firing nearly on all cylinders all the while dealing with injuries at key positions.

We are in great shape going into the second half (almost) of the season and should ony get better. The NFC's got a problem on their hands come playoff time...

Agree with everything except the "firing nearly on all cylinders" on defense. Its still suspect to the big play just like last year.

I hope that changes as the year goes on...

And we have yet to have our starting secondary play together this season. That should be changing soon.
