Always something with Dez Bryant

Yeah. Coaching.

You think they are up for teaching him the basics of football? No.

They are hoping all of that was done already while he was in high school and college.

Jason Garrett has his WR's reading coverages all the time. If he sees this kid get on the whiteboard and have no confidence on some simple play calls and adjustments it could be a reason he wants no part of him.

And when there are rumblings about him not knowing the playbook at Okla State you have to do your due dilligence on him.

The most interesting part of his Pro Day for me when was some scouts talked about him not knowing how to do the drills. That's disturbing.

When Dez hits the NFL field he isn't going to be so much more talented than the defenders that he can rely on his natural talents anymore. And don't tell me there aren't countless players who are gone from this league after a year or two because they believed that was going to be the case.

Happens in all sports. Pitchers think they throw the ball 95mph so they are instantly going to be starting in Majors for years. Until they get to Triple AAA and every 95mph fastball they throw winds up over the fence because their location is straight down the pipe every time out.

I am very interested to hear how his visit with the Pats went. I have to think they were all about his whiteboard work as well.

We know his physical gifts. All that is on film.

Now it's about him showing these teams he can be a professional and also learn their offensive systems while competing with guys who are also NFL level talent.
Exactly. This guy isn't a kid off the street anymore. He's a guy who's been to a major university where he had all kinds of people dedicated to helping him succeed. He now has an agent with a vested interest in making sure he presents himself as well as possible, an agent who undoubtedly has hired assistants so that the player only has to do a minimal amount. And apparently, he has trouble doing even that.

It's nothing personal against the kid. I hope he makes it. But if you're going to give a guy millions of dollars and lots of responsibility, he better show the ability to function like an adult. Not sure why people would think otherwise.

I suspect most of the people just ignoring all these signs are just young like he is and they hate seeing the kid having obstacles placed in front of him.

I think it's crazy when I read emails from people that want to kill me because of stuff like this.

I am rooting for Dez Bryant with all my heart. Who the heck would not love a kid coming from his background to turn into an awesome football player who also turns into a responsible adult that can handle anything life throws his way.

How do I lose if that happens?

Just because I think these issues are interesting to discuss and in some manner alerting others to negative aspects of the story does not mean I am on some crazy 'bring this kid down' agenda.

If the Cowboys draft this kid I will be the first one rocking his sig on here while I post video/Audio of every interview he does.

And if he screws up I will post that video/audio as well.

I dont think anyone who is defending Dez is saying he is a perfect person or player. I think most would agree he is not a very smart person. His college coach said he was a little dense. It would even shock me to hear he is half illiterate.

However, i think what people see in him is a guy with a good heart.
Do you really believe he didnt know the playbook in college? With all his production he didnt know the playbook? I dont buy that one.
I dont have a problem with him not working out at the combine. No problem at all. Many top 10 talents dont work out at the combine. Its not shocking or a big deal. I think way too much is put into a 40 time anyway. Football is a game of instincts. Dez has great instinct for the game. When the ball is in the air he adjust to it and comes down with it. Your bench press means nothing.

Is Dez going to be the smartest guy on your team? No chance.
The NFL draft is such a huge gamble anyway. Look at all the 1st round receivers over the last 10 years that never made anything of themselves in this league. I dont see Dez as a greater risk than anyone else just because he is absent minded. He isnt a menace. And whether he ends up in dallas or somewhere else his success or failure in the NFL will not be influenced by these little things people keep bringing up and obsessing over.

I just read all that you wrote.

And I felt like I was in a time machine.

It was 2005 and we were talking about Pacman Jones.

Really? Then please post the rap sheet on Dez Bryant that matched Pacman's at the same point in their careers.
Please show us how Dez received a jail sentence while at college. Or where he was arrested for pot possession.

You said it... Now back it up.

Dont retract or ignore it. Back it up.

Show us Dez's arrest, accusations, or charges involving run ins with the law.

I'll do half of the work for you. Here is pacmans troubles up until 2005. Now all you have to do is show us Dez's troubles to this point.

10/2003: Jones was sentenced to one year in jail following a bar fight while he was a student at West Virginia University, but the sentence was suspended and he was placed on two years probation. His probation was scheduled to end on Thursday.

4/27/05: Adam "Pacman" Jones was at Club Blaze in Conley, Ga., around 3 a.m. ET on April 27 when officers responded to a fight involving two women. Andrea Akins, a supervisor at the club, told police she was punched in the mouth by a woman who was with Jones. But she later told police the woman "had nothing to do with the altercation," a police report said.

Both women were handcuffed, but were released without any arrests.

7/13/05: The Tennessee Titans' top draft pick, Adam "Pacman" Jones, was arrested Wednesday on charges of assault and felony vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation. Jones surrendered to Nashville police at Titans headquarters Wednesday morning. Jones was in handcuffs, a white T-shirt and light blue exercise pants when he appeared smiling before a night court commissioner, who set bond at $7,000. The charges included one felony vandalism charge and two misdemeanor counts of assault.

9/5/05: The annual Nashville Sports Council Kickoff Luncheon was held at the Renaissance Hotel. Among the 800 guest was none other than Pacman Jones ... later that evening Jones was counseled for a loud verbal tantrum when he was told to wait in line for his vehicle. He also refused to pay for any valet services used that evening.

10/25/05: In a petition filed by the state, it was alleged that Jones has not made regular and sufficient contact with his probation officer and that he did not report his July arrest in Nashville in a timely fashion.

You lose because they were right and they can thump their e-chest and say you were wrong.

The internet, man...it's like South Central LA in 1991 but without police profiling, NWA, or guns :D

Pacman Jones - No, I'll give you that. What about Mike Williams?

Sorry you did all that work. I was just referring to the predraft stuff about him being dumb. Not any rap sheets or his personal baggage.

But it's a sign that you fall into the category of people that can only see one extreme or the other.

If I say Pacman you think I mean every single aspect is the same.

Why? Can't it just be a few simple aspects.

You are the guy at the protest going too far and ruining it for the cause.

all of you guys can settle down because Bryant will not fall anywhere close to where the Cowboys are selecting, therefore, he will not be a cowboy. With that being said, if he is not a part of our team who gives a flying hoot what happens with him?

Wow. Of all people to call someone an extremist. You shouldn't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

You are labeling Bryant as Pacman Jones and saying he is a headache and not worth a draft pick because he forgot a pair of shoes. Your entire stance on Bryant is incredibly extreme in all aspects.

You act as if you know him. You are leading a charge against a player we have no shot of drafting because he will be gone way before its our turn. So you extreme opinion of Bryant wont be shared by the ones that matter the most.

Stone throwing is crappy behavior.

How about no stone throwing, regardless of your housing situation?

But what if you're trapped in a glass house and you have a stone?? THROW IT!!! You're trapped, and you have a stone.

So really it's, only people in glass houses should throw stones, provided they are trapped... in the house.

You just proved my point.

I drafted him for the Cowboys in my last mock draft.

I am not leading any charge. I didn't label him as Pacman. I never mentioned his shoes once in my OP.

You are a waste of time to converse with.

You don't get anything right.

All you do is read two lines and start ranting.

Admittedly, I haven't read through this thread. I will say this: Jerry won't make the same Moss-esque mistake he made in 1998. I don't care that Miles had a break out pro bowl year - shoot, Minnesota had Jake Reed and some HOFer named Cris Carter - yet they went 15-1 that year with Moss in the fold.

And what year did Aikman retire - was it 2000? You don't think he could have extended his career with Bryant - in very much the same way Rice extended Montana's (at least until Steve Young made him expendable)? Imagine the triplets of Aikman, Emitt and "The Playmaker" turning into the quartet featuring a rookie named Randy Moss.

I'm not saying that Bryant will go on to have the same type of career as a Moss or a Rice but to worry about the character issues of a 21 (?) year old young man is being short sighted IMO. I believe Jimmy Johnson was so successful that he would draft the best player available regardless of position (Remember Aikman v. Walsh or Beurlin?). If Bryant is available or obtainable you go after him and don't look back.
