On RoMac? I think he'll screw up or get lazy or just give up at some point and we'll be searching for a new MLB. the end of last season is a good example. I don't usually try to call a players injuries fake but given his history, I can't help but feel like he has mood swings where he feels like being a pro bowl linebacker and some days when he gets lazy and doesn't wanna do anything (I.e. The playoff last year).
Just my gut feeling, which I know doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the long run, but I can't help but shake the feeling. I honestly hope he finds his passion and runs over everyone in his path, but I just don't see it.
1. The Cowboys are not "counting" on him. If he plays it's a bonus.
2. They overstocked on LBs with experience. They gave good money to Brinkley and Gachkar and signed Rivers. They have Lee and Hitchens already.
3. He would likely be replaced in the Nickel by Hitchens. They played Nickel 66% of the snaps last season. That leaves 34% of the snaps in the base which is where McClain's would likely play most of his snaps.
4. He can make an impact playing limited snaps. If he does not practice, he won't play this season unless they have a drastic number of injures at the position.
5. The media exaggerates his issues. Guys like Charles Haley got into all kinds of trouble back in the day, but the Cowboys managed to contain it. It was easier back in the pre-social media days. The Cowboys have had some star players in the past that didn't like to practice. I have not seen anything that validates that he faked injuries during games last season. He might have exaggerated an injury in practice, but it appears the game injury issues were legit. The fact that he came out because of a concussion and the reason he was out was not immediately reported caused fans/media to speculate that he was faking. My understanding is that he really did have a concussion.
6. He represents a probability. There is possibility that he does play well and is worth the trouble. If he was not on the team, then the probability of him producing for the team would be zero. With him on the team that probability is higher than zero. If he was expensive, then that approach would be a problem, but he is not expensive. He signed for a veteran's minimum base salary plus incentives.
