On RoMac? I think he'll screw up or get lazy or just give up at some point and we'll be searching for a new MLB. the end of last season is a good example. I don't usually try to call a players injuries fake but given his history, I can't help but feel like he has mood swings where he feels like being a pro bowl linebacker and some days when he gets lazy and doesn't wanna do anything (I.e. The playoff last year).

Just my gut feeling, which I know doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the long run, but I can't help but shake the feeling. I honestly hope he finds his passion and runs over everyone in his path, but I just don't see it.

He's the best available for us this year. I'd like to see us draft someone more reliable in the middle in the next draft though. I'm with you, I get the feeling he's an accident waiting to happen.

I think when he is healthy he has played very well for the Cowboys and I don't see that changing.

I think he's a bit overrated in these parts. I thought he was great for about 4 games last year. I think his cons overweigh the pros. That's my opinion. I wish we could've done a better job at keeping durant or carter. While not as talented as Rolando, but they sure gave it their all and were far more reliable down the stretch. I can see this organization drafting a LB in the first round next year.

They have multiple LBs already on the team that can play Mike. It's Brinkley and Hitchens best position.

I felt the same way, but he made some really big plays that have gone seemingly unnoticed.

I can think of three plays in three different games where McClain either closed out the game or changed it.

1. The Cowboys are not "counting" on him. If he plays it's a bonus.

2. They overstocked on LBs with experience. They gave good money to Brinkley and Gachkar and signed Rivers. They have Lee and Hitchens already.

3. He would likely be replaced in the Nickel by Hitchens. They played Nickel 66% of the snaps last season. That leaves 34% of the snaps in the base which is where McClain's would likely play most of his snaps.

4. He can make an impact playing limited snaps. If he does not practice, he won't play this season unless they have a drastic number of injures at the position.

5. The media exaggerates his issues. Guys like Charles Haley got into all kinds of trouble back in the day, but the Cowboys managed to contain it. It was easier back in the pre-social media days. The Cowboys have had some star players in the past that didn't like to practice. I have not seen anything that validates that he faked injuries during games last season. He might have exaggerated an injury in practice, but it appears the game injury issues were legit. The fact that he came out because of a concussion and the reason he was out was not immediately reported caused fans/media to speculate that he was faking. My understanding is that he really did have a concussion.

6. He represents a probability. There is possibility that he does play well and is worth the trouble. If he was not on the team, then the probability of him producing for the team would be zero. With him on the team that probability is higher than zero. If he was expensive, then that approach would be a problem, but he is not expensive. He signed for a veteran's minimum base salary plus incentives.

McClain is productive on the field where it counts the most. Now if we can just get him on the field and keep him there...

There is nothing to sell

He is on a one year, incentive based contract

The team has plenty of depth at LB and anything they get will be a bonus

They took their time signing him for a reason and have covered all their bases

Here's the thing. It doesn't matter whether or not he can be trusted. The Cowboys have positioned themselves where we get a Pro Bowl/game changing caliber player at MLB when he's out there, and we have decent fall back positions for when he is not.

Its basically all positive. He a dominant player when he's on his game. We have already accounted for his potential downside and we are covered. If he was not here, we would not have done anything different roster-wise.

What if he totally screws up? Then we have options. He is worth having on the teams for the plays he CAN make. His play last year was the difference of winning probably 3 games we would not have otherwise won early on in the season. He was the monster we needed while the rest of our D found it's Lee-less,Ware-less and Hatcher-less legs.

He is a bonus. We don't need to count on or trust a bonus.
