Am I the only one still upset over the Ware release?

It makes me sick to think about it still. I mean this is a future hall of famer and for his sake it the release might actually bring him a ring this year. I am upset because I never though I would see him, Witten, or Romo playing for another team. I always saw these three (Witten and Ware HOFs) retiring as Cowboys. I guess what makes me sick is the fact that he CAN still play at a high level and I think everyone will be shocked to see him succeed big time in Denver next year like the Ware of old.
It also strikes me weird because even though there was a big amount of money involved it was still worth it to just redo his contract if we are still in win now mode which makes me believe that we are not. I really think that this team is looking to go a different direction and I honestly wouldn't doubt if we select Johnny Manziel.
Not sure if this is the right or wrong way to go about it but I just needed to vent my frustrations because I have always eventually looked at Cowboys personnel decisions and eventually backed them but this one still hurts.

IMO, money-wise, it was undoubtedly the correct decision - especially for the future of the franchise...I love the guy too and wish him success, but he was declining and he was not going to earn the $16m cap hit the team had with him this year....I wanted to see him retire a Cowboy, but the NFL doesn't work that way any more...I don't want to see Romo and Witten wearing another uni at any point, but I can see that down the line as well....it's a business, and Jones FINALLY got that by releasing Ware and Austin and letting Hatcher go

Many of us said he would have to renegotiate his contract and he felt he could still get top dollar. We'll see. No matter what he does in Denver we did the right thing. I wish him well. I'd love to see him get a SB ring.

In a perfect world, I would have loved to have had Ware on this team til he retired. Same could be said for Emmitt Smith. I think even if Ware does get a ring in Denver, I still think he'd go into the HOF as a Cowboy.

Right now..you are probably the only fan UPSET about it.

I wouldn't use that word.

Disappointed is more like it.

I had hoped for better from Ware given the situation.

The Cowboys were backed into a corner. He was no longer a 20+ sack player and you only pay that sort of money if you are.

He could have reduced his expectations like we have as a franchise and fans of his.

But he wanted more.

So....

The players were the ones who started the "it's business" mantra when they wanted max compensation in FA, this is the other business side of it. If Ware wanted to be here bad enough, he'd be here.

I hear ya.They do deserve good money however.

he's making more money this year, and is on a contender.
I love the idea of legacy player being retained, but we haven't won anything with him, and probably wasn't going to.
Both sides get a chance to do what is greatly needed.... cowboys, rebuilding the defense/cap relief, Ware a chance to win a Super Bowl immediately.
Good luck to the warrior.

I agree with every post on here so far. I would have loved for him to retire a Cowboy but money got in the way. As the old saying goes, "It takes two to tango.". We didn't have a choice but to do something with his contract, concerning his age and injury history, in order to get under the cap. This was the perfect opportunity for him to go to a superbowl contender. Ware had to be wiling to redo his contract and he wasn't. My personal opinion is that Ware is going to make us wish we able to keep him ... for about 4 games. He will be an absolute beast and then will try to play with neck stingers. That quad is going to go again and I bet you he has back issues surface in a big way this year. He's been fighting them for a couple of years and they have a way of tapping you on the shoulder and saying, "you're not ignoring me anymore.".

We all loved Ware as a player and had great respect for the man but the truth is that he wanted a chance to get a SB and Jerry gave it to him. I'm pretty sure it was a handshake-wink deal.

Ware is not losing any sleep that he is no longer a Cowboy so I would not spend too much time being upset about it if I was you......................its a business, don't ever think its not.

Nope not upset, he was declining bad the last two seasons nothing there to indicate he can still play at high level. I don't care if he has 15 sacks or whatever for the Broncos it still was the right decision.

I was torn for months but I knew it was coming, we just couldn't afford his contract anymore.. Slowly getting over it, my only consolation is that he went to my 2nd favorite team (A distant 2nd).

He was able to get more money for him and his family which is a good thing. He will always be a Cowboys in my mind. He is not the dominant force he once was but I think he will have a solid season for the Broncos. I wish him the best.

His body is destroyed from taking on the best LT's in the league week after week over the years and he is not the player he once was. I am glad he was able to get a decent contract from a contender.

1st Ballot HOF and ROH inductee - legend with nothing left to prove.

Would like to see him win a ring.

It bothers me some. Age catches to all players but I think ware has a couple 12 plus sack seasons in him. Maybe I am wrong though. I am just disappointed our front office put themselves in a spot where a 31 year old would be making 12-16 million. Just poor cap management IMO.

I don't think Dallas is a championship contender now, but with romo they at least have a QB. When romo retires it may be another 5 or 10 years before we find the next good to above average QB. So how depressing it may sound, the next two years may be the cowboys best shot over the next 10 years with a hopeful productive talented QB in romo. Ware makes that shot better IMO.

If Ware is a 12 plus sack guy the next few years, I think most are underestimating how hard if impossible that is going to be to replace. He is one of the most talented and productive cowboys in their history. Sure the defense has been bad but that is mainly due to a poor front office.

I am just disappointed that the decision had to be made due to poor cap management. And I typically don't want to resign older players or splurge big money in free agency.

Not too upset. This team needed to go in another direction.

Ware will eventually sign a one-day contract in Dallas the day he retires from the NFL. Five years later, he will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a Cowboy. The world will end before the first two sentences come true for them not to happen.

Any frustration and disappointment is due to Ware leaving. That's completely understandable, but let's leave the crazy out of it.
