That thinks that this team is more built on Luck that a "Process"?

I read an article on here that went on waxing poetically that this was the work of Garret's Process and how we are now seeing it because of the Oline overhall... and I have to kind of laugh.

Just a few days ago I was listening to the radio and they had someone on talking about how the cowboys where SOLD on drafting Ryan Shazier out of OSU.
http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***...e-with-dallas-when-steelers-drafted-him.html/
And Martin was there "back up plan" And I have to think that last year and getting Fredrick was a similar situation. When they moved back and by some reports where "confused and trying to move out" of the pick again. And were "forced" to draft Fredrick. There was even stories about how they where so confused they missed on a higher rated player on there board.

and then there McClain... the MVP of our Defense. He wouldn't even be on the team if we didn't lose Lee for the season... I LOVE Lee... he's one of my favorite players... but I think McClain is out performing him comparatively to seasons previous.

So I have to give pause to this whole "process" praise I keep hearing and how we "set out to rebuild the line" with three first round picks and this was the plan. BULL CRAP. And then there is the coaches. Garrett never wanted to fire Rob Ryan and never wanted to relinquish play calling duties and HAD to bring an OC...

idk, just some thoughts...

I don't see it as luck.. Giants teams in the past have had luck.

I just see this team making less mistakes and more plays. And, they are playing with a chip and MAJOR confidence.

I don't think they are SuperBowl Bound. Hopefully, a playoff spot.. but, I think that is it. If I am wrong?

Awesome.

I am not a believer in luck.

But all the accolades about building this offensive line are balanced on Martin and his outstanding play.

Had other teams chosen differently, Martin could have belonged to another team.

If Jerry hadn't come to his senses, or at least been physically restrained, Manziel would be watching from the sidelines and the discussion would have been different around these here parts.

Fate is capricious.

I'm sure those who dislike Jerry and Jason think this is all pure luck.

As good as we have looked, as fun as it has been watching the running game, and as impressive as it was to beat Seattle and be 5-1, ... we are very very close to being the same old 3-3.

Wait, don't scream and crucify me just yet.

I am as happy as anybody.

But we were down 21-0 in a game this year, .. not good. You don't always win after trailing 21-0.

Then against the Texans we win because on 3rd and 8 Dez makes an All-Time highlight catch to save the game. If that ball is not caught, which it very easily could not have been, we are punting in OT and possibly losing.

Against the Seahawks it was 3rd and 20 and TWill makes another All-Time highlight catch to save the game. That pass could have very easily been incomplete. If we punt there, Seattle has the ball with about 5:00 left. We could have very easily lost that game.

So while we are all thrilled at 5-1, with a different bounce here and there each game it could have gone the other way.

That old saying, "you have to be good, but you have to be lucky too."

We are good, no doubt, .. but we have been lucky as well.

Difference between a good team and a bad team? The good teams manage to win games, even the ones they play poorly in.

without some bad bounces in 2011, 2012 and 2013 we would have been in the playoffs.

Do you know how many times in the past, we've been on the short end of the stick? The past powerhouse teams won games that way as well. It wasn't just blow outs. It was little crucial plays that enabled them to get past their opponent.

This happens every week.

Exactly this. You can go back to the year where Dez's finger lands out of bounds first and we lose against the Giants. There are countless games like that.

IIRC, Jimmy wanted Junior Seau in the draft. He was taken before the Cowboys pick, and we ended up with Emmitt Smith.

Lots of draft stories are like that. The bottom line is the Cowboys offense was built by the draft and undrafted rookies.

Perhaps pumping up Shazier was the plan all along in order to get the guy they wanted.

We fans have no idea what goes on behind closed doors at VR. Some would like to think they do, but don't.

I'm sure teams hype players all the time, just to force the hand before them and keep their "real" player safe from being picked.

Luck is always an aspect of success. Emmitt Smith fell into our laps (Jimmy wanted a linebacker) and the Herschel Walker trade was a result of Minnesota (and Cleveland) losing their minds. These things were part of what led to the dynasty. Dez Bryant fell into our laps. We ended up with some really good O-linemen although we might have had other players in mind. Luck is part of the process.

I agree that there has to be a degree of luck, even for the most complete teams in the history of the NFL. In regards to the OP, what we are seeing with the Cowboys is not all based on mere luck, but preparation, attrition, experience, heart, FIGHT, and skill.

Every time I see a post game interview with some of our players the words that come out of their mouths sound like things Garrett says and it is not just regurgitating coach speak, they sound like they believe it. I think Garrett has them believing in his vision of a championship culture. I think the best thing that happened to this team was everyone telling them they were going to be the worst defense of all time and telling them how horrible we are as a franchise. I think that chip on their shoulder + Garrett's mantras are working. Surprised to be sure, but pleasantly. It's part of the process...who knew.

3 first round picks on the Oline with a stud RB who's on pace to break the season rushing record

We control TOP by running it down our opponents throats

We revitalized RoMcClains career

We realized scandricks value and extended him early and he's playing lights out

We hit on the TWilliams pick who's been a great compliment to Dez

In the past it's been said we were bad because we lacked talent, well we have talent now and it's not by luck.

So feel free to give credit to Garrett or Jerry or Marinelli, but please don't claim it's just luck. We should know better than that as cowboys fans.

True. I do think good teams make a lot of their own luck, in terms of players acquired yes some guys like Martin were not 1st options, Dallas really liked Donald and Barr and why not our defense was poor and these 2 guys were top ranked prospects. They got picked before our pick and instead of Johnny football or a 2nd level defensive prospect Dallas went with Martin.
Fredrick move Dallas caught hell over it yet that move saw Dallas ending up with Fredrick and T Williams. Fact is the same people who moaned and groaned then are looking for every way to discredit Garrett and Jerry now.

"They got lucky" is the most common excuse for a poor loser. I will pass on such 'reasoning.'

Everyone and their mother knew we were targeting a LT when we selected Smith. Everyone and their mother knew we were hot for Cooper or Warmack and then accused us of overvaluing/drafting Fred. We still valued OL despite a solid starting 5 and drafted Martin yet people still refuse to acknowledge the emphasis.

It's good at identifying people that have no clue but I would rather raise up my fellow man than take them down.

The main disconnect I see is binary thinking. If we valued front 7 defenders or a corner in the past draft that does not mean we do not value talent in the offensive front. This is not an all or nothing circumstance.
