Where in the heck is SPEARS and CANTY?

BP threaten to sit them last week........however, this week I hope to see him act on his threat!

We do not get any push from our two DE......if not for WARE and blitzing we would not have a pass rush!

Those TWO big overpaid you can fill in the blanks .....NEED to step up and earn their $$$$$$$$$$$$! :bang2:

For last nite game, not just the two, most of them are ....
I only see DWare most consistent. The rest are still in TO's party mood.

Spears falls down too much - not sure what that is about. Canty has the upperbody of a basketball player and the legs of a football player - I just think he lacks the upperbody strength to throw his blockers.

From Madden's point of view, he feels Canty is just playing way too high.

Were these guys prolific sack guys in College? It would be difficult to ask them to be something they never were at this high of a level.

But regardless, last week Spears got pancaked several times and this week there were several plays where he just got completed stoned by Tackle and couldnt get off the block.

They play the run fairly well, they're just not pass rushers. That's simply who they are and we knew that when Spears was drafted.

I say the best way to rectify this situation next year is to put Ellis back at DE and let him split time with Canty. Then go out and get either Shawn Phillips from SD or Adalius Thomas from Baltimore to be the edge rusher. Both are FA and young and will probably be available. This would give us Ware, Ellis, and one other strong pass rusher on all passiong situations. Right now all we have is Ware.

But for now, we need to blitz and take our chances or simply rush 3 guys and drop into coverage because sending the 3 dlineman and Ware isn't working. I just don't see our defense being capable enough of winning 3 games in a row in the playoffs to reach the Super Bowl with the way it's playing right now.

I disagree.

The Scheme needs to be upgraded big time.

How are the Saints able to put pressure on opposing teams and the Cowboys are not. We have probably the most healthy team in the NFL and pretty damn good group of players.

I believe it is a scheme problem.

Ding Ding Ding!!!!!!! THey are who they are. And you know, when you scheme is essentially, "beat your man" then guys who don't have certain natural ability will NEVER produce for Parcells. It is not the DBs everybody...it is the pass rush.

Quick, name me some DBs from Parcells great teams. Gotcha! You probably can't. But you can rattle off Leonard Marshall, Jim Burt, Carl Banks, Harry Carson and of course LT. The 3-4 is based on pressure plays in your front 7...particualry LBers....we have one Ware....so until we get more pressure on the QB...we are just a good team with little margin for error against other good teams.

I thought I saw Kenyon Coleman out there a bit more this game ...

He seemed to be playing with a higher intensity level than Spears.

Time to step up, Marcus.

I like this idea. Of the two, I like Shawn Phillips more since he knows the 3-4 scheme. but I would not complain with either one of them. I think Canty is a situational player that you bring in off the bench 10-12 plays a game tops. Spears should backup Ferguson.

enough with the complaints about these two guys.... they hit a bit of a year 2 wall... not unexpected.. should be solid for years... if not we didn't give up 3 drafts worth of players to acquire them. plus their responsibility is run 1st not coverage or even sacks.

now the same can't be said about our overpriced, low draft picks ie. Roy

I think it's a combination of scheme and players.

Ware and Ferguson are your only consistent players up front, and Ferguson is strictly there to run stuff and take on double teams. We need someone on the opposite side of Ware who demands attention and I don't necessarily think Ellis is that other guy.

What have Spears and Canty done to prove they are a good group of players? The only player capable of providing a rass rush is Ware.

Exactly....Canty actually made a couple of plays, but Spears is the invisible man...I wouldn't be surprised to see Kenyon Coleman take his spot.

I'll also add this: CAnty claims part of his problem is his height which makes it difficult to get low...I hate excuses, but okay, then how come a freakin' guy 6'7" who can't get down can't bat a few passes from time to time?

I personally think this team is "missing" Greg Ellis. I know there was a prominent poster here not a day after Ellis went down was posting that he or his contributions were "overrated". The guy had to be accounted for, especially on passing situations and teams couldnt just key on Demarcus Ware.

But injuries are apart of the game and again, who is more healthier than the Cowboys?

I wouldnt be surprised if the Cowboys were the most healthy team in the NFL.

Personally, I still think this team has the talent to muster a better pass rush and play the deep ball better.

Personally, I thought the defensive game plan that was drawn up against the Colts should have been used against the Saints.

Yeah.

There was a very good closeup of Spears on the sideline on one play and he didnt look too happy to be there.

Parcells put him and Canty on notice.

I personally thought Spears had his worst game last week. He must have been pancaked at least 3 times.

Ellis would not have mattered in terms of pressure and flat coverage would have been abysmal.

we got whipped.. it happens.

Spears had 9 sacks & 14 QB hurries his senior year. He also had two FR for TDs in his college career, so he was known to be a playmaker. He has not shown half of what he was in college. The Chargers not only beat us in the Ware/Merriman deal, they also got the better player between Spears/Castillo. We have been ahead of the Chargers in the last two drafts, yet it is the Bolts who have drafted the All-Pros.
