Between Amendola and Jefferson, which one would you keep on the roster? Why?

Jefferson because he seems more ready to play NFL WR, he's bigger, and doesn't seem to get pushed around quite as much.

I like Danny but I just don't think he's got enough to make it this year. Possibly a year on the PS and he could be a contributor next year.

Honestly I wouldnt keep either one of them, though we might not have a choice unless Jones is fibbing about not bringing in another WR

Both look like PS guys to me

If I had to keep one I keep Jefferson. Danny gets thrown around like a rag doll and he return skills are not NFL caliber. He has a lot of heart and works hard, but physically he just isn't up for it. Maybe after a year or two on the PS and working with Joe Jurczak.

I agree. I think there will be a lot more receivers who'll be waived in the next 48hrs that will be able to contribute more.

They do look like PS guys but we may very well have to keep 6 and I doubt that Jones brings in someone at this point b/c that guy would be playing 3rd WR for a few weeks with little practice with the unit - I think it is Amendola.

Of course, much of this depends on Stanback - if he goes on IR then we may keep both of these guys

Do Amendola's return skills matter if it is just between him and Jefferson? Jefferson is not a return man, either.

Jefferson is an outside guy. That would put Crayton in the slot in the 3 receiver package.

Amendola is a slot guy. That would put Crayton on the outside in the 3 receiver package.

I don't know if either is better than the other at this point. Neither was getting consistently open down field in this last game.

Both, because otherwise we are too thin. Once the established guys come back I probably keep Amendola because he has return ability.

Are there any training camp stats on these guys? Who drops the most balls?

One can and one can't. Danny just isn't physical enough right now. He cannot help the team in his current state. Jefferson is inconsistent, but at least can be effective. All you have to do is watch Danny and you will see he cannot. You are seeing him be ineffective against third stringers, imagine what opposing starters would do to him.

I don't even think this is a question that needs to be ask and by saying that, I'm not speaking highly of Jefferson.

I keep Amendola because of his ability to play the slot and help in the return game. He, to me, seems like he could help us out of the slot. Jefferson is not someone you can put in the slot, imo.

I think they only keep one and I also think Stanback will be there for game 1.

That tells me that Jefferson will be the keeper. Remember, returning is not going to be anyone's function but Jones, Jones, Crayton, or Jenkins. Neither of these guys is going to be our returner so Jefferson brings more to the team on gameday than Amendola.

So do about 5 or 6 other guys on our team if we need them to. Amendola has been fine as a returner, but nothing spectacular.

I had two issues with his returns last night. One he was too timid, the other was when he did try to make something happen, he ran sideways instead of down hill. I don't think he has the speed to not go north and south.

Unless something changes, he is a last resort punt returner.

Agreed his return skills is in the basement so it's not like we have to keep him because of that.

:hammer:

Also, I like our ace tight formations and I would gladly take it over some of the more mediocre 3 wide formations that is prevalent throughout the NFL.

I agree with this about keeping both.

Jefferson passing window is larger due to his size. He is still inconsistent. Had 2 drops, that fumble was bad also. After he fumbled, you can see Amendola making a diving attempt to get the loose ball. With the ball still bouncing around on the carpet, Jefferson tries to scoop it up and run instead of pouncing on the ball. :(

With Jefferson having been on the practice squad last year, he should be more consistent with less mental errors, see above fumble.

Danny seems to have a harder time getting open but catches very well when he does. I think with Tony's accuracy, the smaller passing window that Danny has in comparison to Jefferson isn't that big of a deal. Romo is go at squeezing the ball into tight spots.

Amendola has the special teams helping his cause.

Danny Amendola consistency and special teams play gets him that last spot if only one is available.
