An entire generation is growing up with the Cowboys as losers

Think about it. If you're twenty today, you were 6 or 7 the last time the Cowboys won a playoff game. I'm almost 40 and was in my twenties, but at least I've known a different time.

I worry that an entire generation of Cowboys fans are growing up learning to accept mediocrity as the norm. How could they not?

How could a whole generation of opposing fans have the respect for the Cowboys that they used to command if they've never seen them win?

I know I'll be flamed. Maybe I should be,, but I just worry that a climate of mediocrity is seeping into the Cowboys.

I notice in my life, the younger the Cowboy fan, the less likely they are to think something is wrong here.

I don't even know the point of this thread other than I miss my old Cowboys, man.

haha i'm 20. No one can say I hopped on a bandwagon though. We haven't won a freakin playoff game since I was 7. I can say I don't really remember that one.

Man you got me there! you haven't seen any fair weather to be called a fair weather fan!!

That actually makes me feel a little better. How do you feel about Wade Philips? There's no right or wrong answer man, I'm just curious.

It gets frustrating being a young guy and hearing my dad and uncle rave about how good it was back in the early and mid 90s and hearing my grandpa talk about how good it was in the 70s. All I've got to talk about is dissapointments.

Im 22. I remember the cowboys losing to Arizona and Minnesota. I had emmitt/Irvin/Sanders/Aikman jerseys and everything. Watched every game since I was 4. But your right the majority of my actual knowledgeable years have been spent on either 5-11 seasons or early exits.

Yeah, but at least they're getting a shiny new stadium, with the world's largest jumbo-tron to play with!

The one saving grace for us younger fans is the internet. We can research/re-watch etc. old players, rosters, films and have everything within reach to become as knowledgeable as possible.

You guys didn't have the same resources, like this board for instance, or wiki/google/yahoo/youtube/nfl films on demand. It's actually a HUGE benefit to those of us that listen to have so many great fans on this board. Like having Adam the resident cap guru etc. We have so many older members who show us the way cowboys football SHOULD be. But even with all of that.....

you guys got the real thing.

You>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> us.

You know one of the things you're missing out on? The Cowboys helmets. You should see the way they seem to shine brighter than anyone else's when they're going to Super Bowls. It's magical. Their whole uniforms seemed to glow. Texas Stadium looked different too. More intimidating. Nothing was really different about the helmets and stadium it's just something that happens when they're winning.

All I can tell you is don't become ambivalent. It may very well take the younger generation to get things moving again. How I don't know.

I came down on the younger fans but us older ones can be at fault too. We're the ones who keep thinking a Super Bowl is right around the corner since we've been there. Maybe we're helping perpetuate the status quo in hopes that we're "almost there".

I've been saying that for 15 years, and now I simply get laughed at. It used to rile rival fans up. Now they just roll their eyes and say there goes another Cowboy fan living in the past.

Maybe, hopefully someday this will hurt Jethro's bank account. I doubt it though, i'm sure he'll scheme his way out of any financial "distress" that may occur from this. Heck he's probably got a insurance policy for that very occasion.

Halfway through the Eagles game I got a text from my buddy who has a 12 year old son. It said: "Jeez I'm trying to raise a Cowboys fan here!" Probably the only time I smiled during that game.

The thing is though, he's ours. We have no choice but to accept him, and frankly, we could do worse for an owner.

We as fans have to demand better performance. He should hear us and hire Shanahan. Not just for the unfinished business of the past, but for the future.

I was 12 when we won our last super bowl.

Too young to appreciate them in retrospect.

I never thought after our last SB win in 1995 that it was going to be 15 years (and counting) until we could get back there.

I just thought we would rebuild fro a couple of seasons and then be back, never crossed my mind that we would not even make the conference championship game for 15+ years.

Kinda sad that we are now thought of as perpetual losers, like were the freaking Cardinals or something (yes, I know they beat us this year).

Thats kinda my point.

I live in Tennessee. This used to be Cowboy country. The Titans have taken over. A few weeks ago my 11 and 9 year were talking about why we like the Cowboys. I heard my 9 year old say "it's not like they win all the time like the Titans". My 11 year old then comes and ask me why do we like the Cowboys. I know its not like this in Texas, but the Cowboy mystique is dying in this part of the country, its very sad. I can remember staying after church and talking to Cowboy fans much like this board. Nobody talks about the Cowboys any more. By the way, I told my kids they can like any team they want to, but I'm a Cowboy fan since I was 6 years old. I like them because of Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, and the others I grew up with. We then watched some old games, not all wins either, my kids decided they would stick with the Cowboys. That meant alot to me. Please get better Cowboys, play the right way, and win the right way.

20 year old here as well.

My memories of the Cowboys actually being dominant are vague at best. They don't start to get really vivid until 98 or so. I can remember that Thanksgiving game against the Vikings and the playoff loss to the Cardinals pretty well. Those are the first times I can remember being genuinely hurt by the Cowboys. The Thanksgiving game moreso than the playoff loss. Sadly, I've endured much more of that than feelings of triumph since I've been able to properly appreciate the team. I look at it like this, if Dallas is ever truly dominant again I'll savor it more than those who've either experienced periods of Dallas greatness or weren't along for this prolonged nightmare.

I'm 22 and I do remember the last Super Bowl win, but I wasn't a fan then. I loved the Bengals mainly because of their team colors and uniforms. As I started watching football again around 03-04 I rolled with the Boys. I really don't know, but something attracted me to them. I remember my moms meeting the team back in the 90s and showing me the pics when I became a fan of the team.

I was just watching Epis 4 of Hardknocks and I liked how Wade handled the Anthony Spencer situation after he missed treatment. He didn't yell at him, but he got his point across and I respect that about Wade. Everytime someone mentions that he should loose his job, I can't help but think about Tom Coughlin and the situation he was in before last year. The fans were calling for his head before he won the SB and now their calling him one of the greatest head coaches. I just think Wade needs time with this team. This past season was just his 2nd year here and I feel as though coaches should be given till the end of their 1st contract to prove themselves.
