Man, this Gannon guy sounds like Eberflunks twin. Why any GM would want an interview I have no idea. Oh sorry, never mind , it’s Jerry. Enough said.
So what's he going to do here w/ no S's?https://www.matchquarters.com/p/arizona-cardinals-unique-defense-scheme-2025
The scheme for the Cardinals is unique to them. Jonathan Gannon transitioned to a Fangio-adjacent system when he took over as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator in 2021. One of his key departures from Fango himself was the use of Quarters instead of the Cover 6 (Stuff)/8 system preferred by Fangio.
Gannon worked for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota and then Matt Eberflus (Cowboys DC) in Indianapolis before moving to Philadelphia. Neither one of those coaches is seen as a split-field coach.
Zimmer is multiple, but static, and is known more for his double A-gap pressure package. Eberflus is a traditional 4-3 Cover 3/Tampa coach, again, nothing even close to resembling what the Cardinals are doing now.
The past two years have been defined by the high use of Quarters while utilizing a five-man front. In 2023, the Cardinals led the league in Quarters usage at just over 30%. The defense used the extreme talents of All-Pro Safety Budda Baker, moving him around and placing him in their three-high structure as the Middle Safety. Nickel Garrett Williams' hybrid ability allowed him to morph into a box overhang or deep Safety, depending on the call.
Schematically, the Cardinals were still using their unique three-safety alignment, but were adding more pressure and more disguises. 2024 saw the Cardinals jump to seventh in Blitz Rate (31.8%) and fourth in coverage disguise.
Be careful what you ask for? Please stop trying to sell us on Gannon. LOL We don't want him. Then again, I suppose anyone is better than Eberflus!!![]()
He is a younger EberflusPlease stop trying to sell us on Gannon. LOL We don't want him. Then again, I suppose anyone is better than Eberflus!!![]()
His defense gave up a massive lead in a SB with lots of talent. While I’m not a fan let’s be honest what players do they have? They have even less talent then us there. And they were hurt. It’s like Buddha Baker and some young guys who were hurt.
Now according to the Internet he's a Matt Eberflu's disciple but that doesn't mean he calls plays like Matt or refuses to be more flexible like Matt so I know he's not the most popular pick here but the Cowboys still need to make sure they do their due diligence and people can be upset that they're having interviews with Gannon But I hope he's not there first second or third choice but he has to at least be a choice just in case the others fall through...https://www.matchquarters.com/p/arizona-cardinals-unique-defense-scheme-2025

Well there's rumors on the Internet that he's a Matt Eberfluous disciple I don't know where the connection comes from but that's what's going around on the Internet they're even mad at Jerry for having me interviews with somebody that even has the appearance from the outside to be anything like matt..Sounds like a cross between SpongeBob and Jm J Bullock. No thanks
I don’t get the hype. His defense wasn’t that effective. Give me a guy who ran a D with an avg talent on the field and had success. That’s why you need since in all likelihood we are gonna improve our defensive talent but you aren’t gonna have elite defensive talent. It’s gonna take more than 2-3 new players to accomplish thatYes, hard pass on Gannon..
I don't think there's hype why are we creating hype nobody said there was hype just because the man's getting some interviews that don't mean anything jason Garrett and Mike Mccarthy are getting interviews kind of crazy huh it is what it is some teams want to hear what some outside people say in these meetings about their team and the direction they might take their team they're draining information from every one of these interviews...I don’t get the hype. But he did just get through coaching a team with a real GM and a real owner and uh normal NFL power structure in the front office so why did they hire him? just curious when people say that but he somehow has been in the NFL...Nothing about him screams hey, there's a football guy. He might be better suited for college
Agree. I'd love to get a guy that's willing to stick with it here in Dallas for no less than 3 years. For the reasons you stated. But he did just get through coaching a team with a real GM and a real owner and uh normal NFL power structure in the front office so why did they hire him? just curious when people say that but he somehow has been in the NFL...
I think it might be what you said but also remember some coordinators are not cut out to be head coaches and they are better coordinators so they can go back to being a coordinator and maybe focus on what they do best..
I'm definitely not pushing for this guy though, he would be bottom list guy,
I am hoping it's one of the younger guys like Jones, Leonhard, Parker, Banda, or even Al Harris who've they yet to Interview etc
I'd like somebody that wants to stay and grow and try to make a name for himself...
Flores as a hopeful, than add Whitecotton and Gannon at the emergency break glass types.
I mean if it came down to those two Gannon versus whitecotton who would you want at the very bottom if it just all went south and that's it at the last minute they had to flip a coin?
agreedI just want the new DC to run schemes that fit the personnel's strength, not try to fit square pegs into round holes.
i hope no Gannon.....no whitecotton.....i hope Flores and blueblood70 your profile picture cracked me so badBut he did just get through coaching a team with a real GM and a real owner and uh normal NFL power structure in the front office so why did they hire him? just curious when people say that but he somehow has been in the NFL...
