Tony Romo after the Pro Bowl (quoted in a Star-telegram article): "I was trying out some stuff tonight, so I was pretty excited about some of the things that started technically to work," Romo said, declining to go into detail. "Now, I'll be able to go back to the drawing board and get better with those things."
I gotta tell ya, I love reading quotes like this. While I'm itchin to know what those technical improvements are, I'm more elated that we have a starting QB who not only talks about getting better, but also walks that walk.
I was hard on Romo coming into 2009 - not convinced he would ever grow more as a QB - but that growth, not only in his game but also in his leadership-ability, has been a nice welcomed surprise this past season.
Now I'm a Romo believer, and my hope for 2010 is that Jason Garrett can grow similarly as an offensive game-plan coordinator and gameday play-caller. While I've been hard on Garrett for his costly 2009 (and previous) failures, I also understand that he can also grow, provided he takes the first step and owns up to his own accountability, and then follows that up by working on perfecting some new coaching "mechanics" (for lack of a better word) of his own.
We'll see in due time - the 2010 season seems like a long time aways from now.
