“@NU_Gap: Sylvester Williams, on a snaps per pressure was the most efficient pass rushing DT. He was as efficient getting to the QB as Damontre Moore”

Have to admit this guy is wearing on me, if the guards are gone, I think he will be the man..

But I truly believe a guard will be available, I am not buying all the smoke screening right now..

Yep, I am warming up to him as well. Very quick for his size, would be an excellent fit in Monte's 4-3. Only thing not to like is his age (25 in November) but he looks like someone that could contribute right away.

If one of the guards falls to us I believe it will be Cooper.

Sly is my pick at 18 assuming that Cooper is gone.

If we traded back to Minny, is there anyone in that 19-25 range that would snag Sly from us?

Remember Terrence Newman came to us at 25 and he seemed to be with us forever. 2003-2011

True, but he had a lot of injury issues towards the end.

How are the intangibles?

NFL.com Gill Brandt said he's a hard worker with good work ethic. Another said he disappears for stretches of games. I didn't see anyone say he had a non stop motor.

If Richardson, Warmack and Cooper are off the board at 18, Sly is a Cowboy.

Sly has been underrated by the public for quite some time. His size/strength/explosion combo is enticing. Here are some things I see from him...

- Explosive first step. Threatens the gap immediately. Wonderful in-line athlete for his size.

- Very high effort player. Fights to pursue the ball.

- Doesn't always find and tackle the ball. Many times he beats the block, pressures the passer, but doesn't wrap up and make the play.

- More of a disruptor than playmaker. Think pocket collapsing and pressure in the QB's face rather than sacks.

- Probably not the elite rusher you want as a 3 or elite LOS controller you want as a high end 1. Almost a tweener. But that blend of skill is a good thing. Ex: Hankins and Jesse Williams are better against the run but I'll take my 1 giving a bit of ground occasionally but be able to threaten the pocket v. the pass consistently.

Overall I like him, don't love him at 18. He's a safe pick that would add some nice size and skill to the interior DL, and I'm warm on him but wouldn't be thrilled.

That's what I was wondering. He seems like a good pick and according to Brandt he does have good work ethic. The one thing they kept saying about Crawford last year was non stop motor. If they do take him I'm confident they've done their homework and that Brandt is right.

The above link has his bio and 4-5 small videos you can watch on him.

Fun watching the videos with him, Okafor and Moore with Sapp and Mooch.

I like what he had to say about Cooper and him going at it in practice.

I'm not as high on Sly as some. I'd much rather trade back than draft him at 18.

Yeah, I don't want to take him at 18. I like him--am not in love with him. Which means I'd only consider him in a trade down

:laugh2: I love the I would take him in a trade down guys (I have been like that in the past).

But let's be realistic here.

If there was a much better player there that someone would trade up for, chances are we would take that much better player unless it would be a QB.

IOW there has to be a player there for a team to want to trade up to get and if that player is much better than Sly...chances are we would take him.

Just something to keep in mind that just because me, you or others would rather us trade down...it takes two teams to make a trade happen and the Cowboys can not force a trade just because we would like it to happen.

I don't agree with this assessment at all. If all five offensive linemen and the premier defensive linemen are taken, that likely means someone like Patterson, Austin, Eifert or one of the QBs fell. I'd bet the Vikings would be willing to trade in such a scenario. I just don't really foresee a scenario where Williams is the BPA at 18.

Pretty much Leon Lett's profile.
