I don't agree with this assessment at all. If all five offensive linemen and the premier defensive linemen are taken, that likely means someone like Patterson, Austin, Eifert or one of the QBs fell. I'd bet the Vikings would be willing to trade in such a scenario. I just don't really foresee a scenario where Williams is the BPA at 18.

It does not matter whether you agree with it or not.

Simple logic dictates that it takes two teams to make a trade and if there is not someone there that a team is willing to part picks to get, they will not.

Simple Logic.

Now that does not mean it will not happen but people need to be realistic and not just think we can trade down on a whim just because a player we might take does not meet what we think should be the 18th overall pick.

Furthermore even if we do find a partner to trade down with, it does not mean that Sly will be sitting there at our new pick. Could be we miss out on him and wind up with a player that is not in his league. Cowboys fans should remember that little type of thing happening when we traded down thinking we could still get Unger and losing out on him.

:laugh2: I love the I would take him in a trade down guys (I have been like that in the past).

But let's be realistic here.

If there was a much better player there that someone would trade up for, chances are we would take that much better player unless it would be a QB.

IOW there has to be a player there for a team to want to trade up to get and if that player is much better than Sly...chances are we would take him.

Just something to keep in mind that just because me, you or others would rather us trade down...it takes two teams to make a trade happen and the Cowboys can not force a trade just because we would like it to happen.

Geno Smith? Tavon Austin? Kenny Vaccaro? Tyler Eifert? Plenty of possible players to trade up for.

I love how strange stuff always happens on draft day.

Remember Terrence Newman came to us at 25 and he seemed to be with us forever. 2003-2011
He had a nice career.
Anyway, Sly would be coming to us at 24 and would be 24 for the majority of the 1st season.

He's a viable option. Dallas could do much worse for sure. A lot of fairly respected evaluators are starting to rank him in the 16-19 range, so taking hm at 18 very well could be BPA as well as need.

I'll take Cooper, Richardson, Warmack before him though.

Vaccaro will be gone or we take him at 18 IMO.
Tavon is Gone or we take him at 18 IMO.
Geno will be gone.

Eifert is the best option however I don't know if a team would be willing to give up much to move up to get him.

There is a VERY strong possibility, much more chance than the other way around, that we do not get a trade.

Sly Williams might be the person who fits BPA and Need when we are sitting there at 18 and have no chance to trade down. It is something we all should think about as a serious possibility. Not saying it will happen but people should prepare for that very scenario to happen.

Hardest draft to gauge as far as I can remember, with bad QB's, RB's are not 1st round worthy, and WR so deep, that the trenches seem like a safe pick.

Some team is going to reach and options there are Tank, Eifert, Nassib, Barkley, Manuel and Patterson. All these guys can be taken before us, not saying all will but I think 1 or 2 have strong potential.

Jags getting more buzz around Geno, Cleveland in a trade down could very possible choose EJ Manuel, Bills are the wild card. They could go Barkley, Nassib, Austin, Cooper, or Warmack.

We will see how this plays out but I am still betting either Cooper, Warmack, Richardson, Austin, or Vaccaro will be on the board when we pick.

I would love Austin, but I am not sure I would want to come on this site for a while if he was the pick.

Yep. Just a crazy year but I think that is why I am so excited about it this year...more excited this year about it than the last few years.

I'm with you on Austin and Vaccaro not being there, but I absolutely think Geno and Eifert will be on the board.

I get the feeling that JAX will be working the phones like crazy to trade up into the late 1st for Geno.

Ohhh...I really don't know if I would be ok with not having a first round pick this year.

They would have to give up the farm for me to fall completely out of the first.

Id gladly sell them 18 and a fourth for 33 and next years first. I really don't care who is on the board.

“@NU_Gap: Sylvester Williams, on a snaps per pressure was the most efficient pass rushing DT. He was as efficient getting to the QB as Damontre Moore”

Have to admit this guy is wearing on me, if the guards are gone, I think he will be the man..

But I truly believe a guard will be available, I am not buying all the smoke screening right now..

Cooper Richardson or Syl. Williams

I think Sylvester Williams will be great at the 3-tech in Kiffin's defense. If he plays the 1-tech or gets drafted by another team and plays a different position or different style defense I don't think he will be as good in some of those schemes.

Like many of the DT in this draft, he will be better in a rotation. Lotulelei, Short, Williams, etc.. all tended to get tired and slow down in college games.

Worst case scenario we get him I would be ok with that even at #18

I would rather take Sly over Eifert or Lacy which I suspect are on our radar at 18...

Sylvester Williams and Datone Jones were not in the best schemes/positions to maximize their talent, IMO.

You can almost guess the result of the play by looking at where Sylvester Williams lines up pre-snap. When he is on the outside shoulder of the Guard like he would be as the 3-tech in Kiffin's defense, there is a high probability that he gets into the backfield.

I understand the Sly Williams love as he is really smooth for a guy with his length to go along with his surprising anchor, but I really do not get why Datone Jones is not getting more love. Jones is much more explosive as a 3 technique and almost seems like he has no wasted movements when he rushes from inside (not quite as fluid rushing from the edge). It would not surprise me if Jones ends up being the best 3 technique in this draft.
