An NFL first for Ware

We haven't played the last seven games of the season yet.

In his first seven seasons, Ware had at least six sacks in the final seven games of five different seasons. Only he and Reggie White have done that. Ware also has averaged 6.4 sacks in the final seven games of his seasons -- the most in NFL history.

nice. be careful what you add for. lol.

What's amazing is that he's been doing all this with very little help from his teammates.

And its all been a waist on this team, he will never get close to a super bowl

If he keeps his head up, and keeps working hard to get a leg up on the competition, other players won't be able to lay a finger on him, and it won't be a total waist.

Remember, it's a game of feet.

Wow. I think he's the third best defensive player in NFL history behind LT and Reggie. And I don't much like saying that.

Ware is great, a first ballot HOFer for sure. He is not top 3 all time.

I agree, I thought that was a pretty ridiculous statement when I read it.

Top-3 defensive player in NFL history? Off the top of my head here are 10 players I would rank ahead of Ware (besides the two he mentioned):

Bob Lilly
Ernie Stautner
Merlin Olsen
Deacon Jones
Joe Greene
Dick Butkus
Dick "Night Train" Lane
Randy White
Gino Marchetti
Bobby Bell

Maybe top-3 in the last 20 years but all-time? Not even close.

Not yet, however, he still has a ton of gas left int the tank.

I can easily see him exceeding Kevin Green's sack record for linebackers -- if not more.

Its hard to project which guys will/won't play effectively into their late 30's. If Ware can play to age 38/39 there is a chance he could break Bruce Smith's record.

At that point, you'd have to put him in the top 2 pass rushing OLBs of all time.

Your admiration of Ware awesome. Having said that, as other posters have indicated, I don't think there is any way Ware is in the top 10-20 defensive players of all time.

He has a chance of being one of the top 1-2 edge pass rushers of all time, however, that is just 1 of 22 positions on the field.

Here a questions to ponder as an example of how hard it is to compare players at different positions:

Is Demarcus Ware a better 3-4 OLB than Lance Briggs is a 4-3 OLB?

This is the third consecutive season that Ware has had at least six sacks in the first five games. He's the first player to do that in three consecutive seasons since sacks became an official stat.

If he gets at least one against Carolina, he'll also become the first player to have at least seven in the first six games for three consecutive seasons.

I thought he was pretty much invisible against the Ravens until he got the sack.

ware does not pose and prance and do all the crap so many players do that accomplish much less.

Sadly because of the influence of BSPN and all that garbage he will never get the cred he deserves

Did Ware play last week? I didn't notice.

Oh, yeah, the sack. What about the rest of the game?

Right now, Sean Lee is a superior player to Demarcus Ware. And it's not even close.

You are taking Ware for granted. I don't buy into the "yeah he gets 16-20 sacks per year - but they are <quiet> sacks" boloney.

I made the same point above. Although I appreciate the fact that the rest of our D-line doesn't apply much pressure, Ware nonetheless tends to have somewhat quiet games. His only sack against the Ravens was big, but what else was there?

Another one that does not get it

how about providing a description of your version of reality?

He's a great player, but he's overrated at the same time.

LT never had a game with one tackle. Ware is a linebacker for gawd's sake.

At times, he's awesome. But I watched the Bears LT (who almost got Cutler killed against Green Bay) completely own Ware for four quarters.

Ware is streaky.

First of all - Defensive players - there are 11 of those.

Ware is by far a better OLB than Briggs is an ILB. Briggs won't sniff the HOF and Ware will be a 1st ballot.

Ware can play 2 positions with the best of them, DE and OLB

By the way, if everyone else on the defense caused as many turnovers as Ware does, we would be unstoppable.

All he does is adjust the OLine on most every play, make every offense account for him and get sacks which consistently cause fumbles, but you guys just keep looking at that tackle stat line OK!

I agree with Shango's comparison of Ware to A-Rod.

A-Rod is notorious for hitting home runs and grand slams with a 11-3 lead. Meanwhile, he tends to strikeout with a runner on third down a run in the 8th inning.

Other than one play, Flacco never got a whiff of Ware all day, or anyone else not named Sean Lee.
