And like that we matched last year's win total

The front office mostly I think. They really didn't provide adequate backups at several positions, most notably QB.
Outside of QB, out of curiousity, what other backup positions are better? I know you're gonna say Zeke but honestly do you think he is that much of an upgrade or is it mostly qb play? I really like Zeke but truly think qb play is the vast difference.

I think the schedule helped getting some momentum going

So whose fault was it last year?

Worse QB play, and no Zeke. Even if we only added Zeke from game 1 last year I seriously doubt we go 1 - 11. We probably would never have even gotten Cassel, because Weeden wasn't turning the ball over and probably would have won enough games with Zeke at RB to keep the job held down until Romo came back.

Without Romo, Dez and Scandrick.

Oh we didn't have those guys for our losses last year either...

It was mainly qb play last year for the reasons we lost. If you remember correctly we were really in almost every game we lost. Most of the time they lost cause they couldn't pick up a crucial 3rd down or score 6 in the redzone

Zeke is so far above Joseph Randle that it's laughable. Weeden had Randle as his starter and McFadden getting limited carries. Weeden wins some games last year with Zeke, he dinked and dunked and protected the ball. That would have been enough to beat some teams with excellent RB play.

Remember last year when we were swimming with talent at DE--Lawrence, Gregory, Mincey and Hardy? And then......

I think part of the difference at RB is that we have competent QB play but there's also just a talent difference and scheme fit difference also. Both Zeke and Morris are good RBs who fit the scheme we want to run much better then the backs last year. I think the DT rotation is much better. CB is better in that Brown is better then our CB3 last year, which iirc changed almost weekly.

I know most people just see Dak and Zeke and think that is the only difference, but our defense has really improved and some of that is actually because of Dak and Zeke. But some of our offense is actually benefitting from the defense.

Our defense is stronger up the middle and our secondary is playing better with improved safety play. We have some young guys that have improved even though they are not jumping out on the screen. Wilcox has improved, Claiborne has improved, and Jones is settling in. People still want to groupthink and bash Carr but the dude is a competitor and has played every down since he has been here. Brown has been an unexpected surprise as well as Maliek Collins in the middle.

I am not saying we are elite defense but we are forcing 3 and outs and field goals instead of TD's and forcing a few turnovers, that only feeds back into the offense.

It's funny that people think the only difference is Dak and Zeke.

That's because you can buy a number 4 or 21 jersey, and you see their highlights on ESPN. Tougher to buy an 'entire defense' jersey. Even though you're correct, and the defense as a whole has been vastly superior - especially in preventing TDs. So far this season we've given up scores of 20, 23, 17, 17, and 14 for an average of 18.2 points per game - good for 8th in the NFL.

I was thinking of McFadden as the starter.

It was 90% poor QB play coupled with 10% inability for the D to hold in defining moments.

The let down on D was a result of the poor QB play.
