Wow seriously how hard can it be to stay out of trouble
Actually, it is very hard to stay out of trouble, but the vast majority of people the world over do it every day. It's hard work for anyone to abide by rules/laws or segregate themselves from people or places which could get them into trouble. That takes effort. Yet, like I said, most people do stay out of trouble every day.

However, it's easy to get into trouble. All one has to do is not follow rules/laws or avoid situations common sense will tell you could place you in jeopardy. Such ease can be compounded by the fact that, especially if your famous or wealthy, there will always be someone around you perfectly willing to help you get into trouble. It's just a fact of life.

Examples of hard work:

Drinking but NOT driving.
Avoiding a fight if no one has been physically harmed (e.g. the sticks and stones rule).
Not associating with family or friends who constantly get into trouble themselves.
Devaluing human life to justify monetary gain (e.g. Rae Carruth)

It's easy to get into trouble. Just disregard laws, rules and/or common sense and you're there smack dab in the middle of troubleville.

How old are you and what type of profession are you in?

If you are a teen working for McDonalds, I could see your ratinale, but if not, I don't think you know much about corporate world and their sensitivity of employee related negative press.
Old enough and in a respected profession that is very much in the "corporate world."

I notice you do not give details OGT. why is that- I mean you do not have to give the company name or something like that- but you keep being vague. That usually means that you have something to hide.

You want me to give my name, address, and phone number out in addition to company name? What about my social security number? How 'bout I throw out my bank account numbers for good measure?

Do you ever think before posting? I'd just like to know one occasion.

Anyone that's paid attention to this site should have a pretty good idea of what I do.

Maybe you should check with HR then because most corporations have clauses for discipline or dismissal for criminal behavior.

I worked for IBM for many years and they not only had that clause, they enforced it on a number of occasions that I am personally aware of (no it wasn't me).

Or you could always test out your theory and see if you will get fired after being arrested.

Of course they have a clause. It would be stupid to not have one. Doesn't mean it will get exercised. I'm not saying that all companies would or would not exercise it. Could you guys try reading first?

And just to show you that I am not hiding:
I work for the US Army as a civilian ammunition inspector. I work at Ft Drum, NY home of the 10th Mountain Divison- a unit that has been deployed more then any other regular unit in the US Army. My career program is mandatory mobility- meaning that I go where the army tells me to go or I lose my job.
I will probably be sent to Kuwait later this year- no big deal, lot better then Iraq(or as it is known in the military- the BIg Sandbox) or Afghanistan .

I highly doubt it, your posts certainly doesn't reflect it.

It's pretty laughable that you think "most companies/employers" doesn't care about what their employees does after working hours and that is mentality of a very young person making a minimum wage.

Holy subject verb agreement, Batman!

I'm not sure it matters whether or not you doubt it. That doesn't make reality any less real.

He's not very famous and this won't get national news, so he'll probably be treated differently by Roger "Double Standard" Goodell.

Why do you consider Goodell to have a double standard?

He treats players differently according to how the media/fans react.

Hammering down on Chris Henry and Pac-man, but giving Vick a walk.

Maybe the Bengals don't care what their players do in their personal time when they're off duty or "off the clock." My employer doesn't care. Most employers don't.

Your absolutely right, nor should they. However, I am sure you an an opstanding citizen; or at the very least you don't get arrested for stuff like this, your employer would care if you got into trouble with the law, as with all these recent NFL players. Your employer has just as much a responsibilty to keep and image as the NFL does, and if you are conflicting with that, you would be gone from your job. The problem is that the NFL can't really afford to do that all the time because superstars like Vick are getting in trouble; on one hand you want to protect your product of the NFL and keep integrity so you might suspend him, on the other hand you also want to keep the fans watching.

Goodell might need to restrict player rights and ask that clauses be put into their contracts that the players should not be allowed ANY leeway if he gets into trouble.

Shoot, the players' lives are already under control of the NFL what with the season and training camp and lifting weights, what is one more restriction? They wanted to get to the league, and I think if they want to play here you better follow the rules. If you want to get into a fancy restraunt, you wear a suit and tiel if not see ya. Same theology should apply IMO

I haven't seen that yet. There are still cases left open to decide, namely Vick. He may live up to being a double standard guy, but it still too early to pass that judgment. Let things play out first. There are many in the media and fans that want Vick suspended, so it may happen.

Nothing has happened to vick - YET. You are claiming something that has no evidence to support you. There is no doubt that Vick is getting close to something happening to him- but lets be honest here: Henry and Pacman have been in a lot more trouble in a much shorter period of time.

Then there's Haynesworth. He gets a lower suspension when his actions were on-the-field and worse than anything Pac-man's ever done.

I'm retired now but used to work for a USG entity and you better believe I'd be in trouble if I repeatedly got in trouble. They may overlook a first-time DWI but a 2nd would land me in trouble with the shrinks. If it's more serious (not saying DWI isn't), I could lose my clearances & w/o that I'd not only lose my job but be unable find another job with a company who does Govt work.
