How about this scenario??

With Rivera's contract expiring it appears he can actually be had as DC if we (Jerruh) pays enough. How about the following scenario.

HC = Jim Caldwell
DC = Ron Rivera
OC = Jason Garrett

This gives us an intriguing new Head Coach, with two excellent back-ups in case he does not work out. I foresee the only real problem being that we might get poachers in the next year or 2 to snatch Rivera or Garrett for a HC job. ALthough I like Rivera better as a Head Coaching candidate, I think -

Caldwell(HC) + Rivera(DC) > Rivera(HC)

We still have some issues with the retention of the 3-4 BUT Caldwell IS the Colts' Asst. Head coach and QB coach. I hear that Indy has a pretty good QB...what's his name...Eli Manning???

Interesting...

Please, not Caldwell. His record as a head coach at Wake Forest was horrific. Even worse than Norv's NFL record. Avezzano-like. Just give the job to Rivera. Or Singletary. Or Garrett. (In that order, I think). Or actually interview the guy that, at least on the surface, seems to be the best qualified -- Rex Ryan. Or if you absolutely need a guy with experience, and a good history of developing qbs who were late-rounders, or undrafted, go with Mike Martz. A guy with a winning record, who has consistently gotten his teams into the playoffs, and has actually gotten a team to a Superbowl as a head coach.

There are lots of good candidates out there. But in my opinion, Caldwell gets no more credit for developing Manning than what I give Norv for developing Troy -- next to none.

Sounds mildly interesting. What's the skinny on Caldwell?--not real familiar with him.
