Another look at Brandon Weeden

He'll be 32 in October. He'll be ready to retire roughly the same time Romo retires.

His career completion percentage is 56% which is just awful.

I find it impossible to look at Weeden as anything other than a career backup at this point -- to envision him as a full time starter is a dream.

Over a similar # of attempts other young qbs have had as bad or worse %. I can think of one who has two SB rings

Weeden did look passable in the Washington game when he entered in relief of Tony Romo. But the next week when Arizona was able to game plan for him... yeesh.

I agree he played well vs Washington and I felt we had a good chance to win. Romo re-entering the game was a mistake.

Weeden started his first drive on the dallas 43. He had two incomplete passes, and we settled for a field goal.

On the next drive he fumbled, but murray fell on it. A 23 yard screen to Murray set up a Weeden touchdown.

Romo didn't have an amazing final drive, but I don't think it was all his fault, poor protection certainly played a part. And there wasn't a lot of time to run the ball at that point.

Guy is a total joke, and if Romo goes down, we'll wish we had done more to invest in a reliable backup QB.

I just felt Romo was not effective on his return. I understand putting him back in given his history of returning and being effective this time around I just felt was not performing to a level to win.
Dallas took the lead with Weeden in the game and just felt his play was good enough to win with on that day

We were losing when Romo came back in.

Now I've seen everything. A 32 year old first rounder who has been in the league 5 years is now being called a rookie.

Well Peyton is playing in a new system this year also. I guess he's a rookie also.

Just a ridiculous thread and premise.

Yeah, nothing to be discussed here. He's 32 and looks terrible. He'll be out of the league in a season or two.

Weeden is a wasted roster spot and is stealing valuable reps from Vaughan. If he were 23 instead of 32 it might be a different story - but he's not.

I'm not blaming Romo, I felt Weeden gave us the best chance to win that night. Romo was not ready to re-enter the game.
I would also add when Weeden left the game it was 17 to 17 after he connected with Jason Witten for a TD.

Vaughn is the great future hope for the Cowboys at QB. That's why they kept him on the 53.
The Cowboys won't be in a position to draft a top QB in the 1st round for some years if their
plans unfold successfully. Weeden is a stopgap until Vaughn is advanced enough to take over.
I don't think you will see the Cowboys draft a QB in the top 3 rounds for a considerable time due
to the development cost of QB's and the length of time on first rookie contracts.

No reason we need to make a choice, let them battle it out in TC and pre-season and the best takes the second spot. I wouldn't put a large wager on BW though, all the tools, no head. Vaughn otoh has shown promise and kudos to the team for picking him up.

I would prefer to keep Vaughan and cut Weeden unless Vaughan looks terrible in the Preseason. Vaughan has had some time with the team now so if he does look terrible this preseason, then I don't see him ever being ready. Either way, I prefer to keep only 2 QBs this year and use that extra spot on another position.

So let me get this straight.

You started a different thread last week about Romo and had, just had to add Weeden at the end of it.
The majority of the responses were about the Weeden portion of that post.

So instead of just letting it go in that thread, heaven forbid the concept, you decide to wait until the next week or so and start a whole NEW thread (shocker) about the very Topic that got the most responses. There of course would never be a reason of look at me trolling this specific topic that you already know the majority on the board is going to disagree with you in some crazy assessement over Weeden...no...no that could not come into play in making yet another thread and especially another thread on a topic you already touched on and got responses from.

Next thing you will know you will start arguing with people about some post over semantics or arguing with someone after you move the goal posts and some other excuse to tell us how we are not educated or wrong just because we don't agree with your initial premise even though you already know who people feel about your initial premise because you already posted about it and others have responded about it.

It is one thing to start multiple threads with "some" topics you know will illicit a negative amount of responses (that's a fancy way of saying a troll thread). It is yet another thing to start a thread about a topic that you have already talked about in some form where you have already gotten the responses you act like you did not want in the first place although many would argue you got the responses you were looking for in the first place.

Two words: Fools gold.

When you actually look at what Weeden did against the Skins it wasn't really all that impressive.

Dallas at 5:43 (3Q)

1st and 10 at DAL 43(5:43) D.Murray left tackle to WAS 6 for 51 yards (B.Breeland).107
1st and 6 at WSH 6(4:58) D.Murray right tackle to WAS 3 for 3 yards (K.Golston).
2nd and 3 at WSH 3(4:16) B.Weeden pass incomplete short right to D.Bryant (B.Breeland). Pass was broken up front-right corner of the end zone.
3rd and 3 at WSH 3(4:12) (Shotgun) B.Weeden pass incomplete short middle to D.Bryant (B.Breeland). Pass incomplete on a "slant" pattern.
4th and 3 at WSH 3(4:07) (Field Goal formation) D.Bailey 21 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-L.Ladouceur, Holder-C.Jones.1010
DAL DRIVE TOTALS: 5 plays, 54 yards, 1:40

Dallas at 13:38 (4Q)
K.Forbath kicks 50 yards from 50 to end zone, Touchback. Ball was kicked out of the end zone. Tony Romo is being evaluated in the locker room; his status is unknown.1710
1st and 10 at DAL 20(13:38) D.Murray right end pushed ob at DAL 25 for 5 yards (P.Riley).
2nd and 5 at DAL 25(13:12) (Shotgun) B.Weeden pass short left to J.Hanna to DAL 32 for 7 yards (K.Robinson).
1st and 10 at DAL 32(12:35) J.Randle left end pushed ob at DAL 35 for 3 yards (K.Robinson).
2nd and 7 at DAL 35(12:08) B.Weeden pass short right to T.Williams to DAL 49 for 14 yards (E.Biggers). Pass complete on a "corner route."
1st and 10 at DAL 49(11:42) B.Weeden to DAL 44 for -5 yards. FUMBLES, recovered by DAL-D.Murray at DAL 44. D.Murray to DAL 44 for no gain (R.Kerrigan).
2nd and 15 at DAL 44(10:54) (Shotgun) B.Weeden pass short right to D.Murray to WAS 33 for 23 yards (B.Meriweather). Screen pass.
1st and 10 at WSH 33(10:11) J.Randle up the middle to WAS 25 for 8 yards (E.Brown; W.Compton).
2nd and 2 at WSH 25(9:36) B.Weeden pass short right to J.Witten for 25 yards, TOUCHDOWN. Pass complete off play action. D.Bailey extra point is GOOD, Center-L.Ladouceur, Holder-C.Jones. Justin Durant of Dallas has an arm injury and will not return to the game.1717

A long Murray run, a Murray screen and a TD to Witten on a busted defensive assignment led some to believe that ol' Brandon just might actually be a competent QB. The Cardinals game disabused those folks of that notion.

Dude, you're preaching to the choir here. I can't stand Weeden. I don't like even seeing him in a Cowboys uniform... much less actually playing in a game. He single handedly took one of the best teams in the league last year and made the Arizona game unwinnable. Even after Patmon Spotted him a TD.
