And give him incentives to reach more as he plays and accomplishes.
Why give him any incentives? Tell him to take vet min or hit the road. Do you foresee some bidding war for an injury-prone, aging WR who has lost a step or two? As far as I see it, he owes the Cowboys money back from his putrid performance last year. He's been robbing this team blind recently.

Hamstrings aside, how plausible is it that Austin takes a pay cut this year, like Free did and elects to stay with the team? Assuming you were pretty sure he would be healthy this year does it make cap sense (and roster spot sense) to keep him around. It is doubtful he will get a big payday anywhere else. What are the pros and cons?
Everything got hazy after I read, "Hamstrings aside."

Seriously though, I believe Romo 2 Austin explained Miles' options really well. There are enough potential suitors who will pay and pray his hamstrings will not be detrimental to their roster. Personally, I do not think anyone can assume Austin's health for an entire season. His hamstrings have restricted him to the sidelines far too often during his post 2009 career. And that's after factoring in seasons like 2010 and 2012.

Outside of last year he has been a top 5 WR when healthy since his breakout... even though he's been rarely health. He's a case study on how injuries can derail a career.

Top 5 in what???? On what planet in what league????

He contributed next to nothing last year, spent most of the year in the hot-tub, and was paid more than 90% of the guys on the team.

He has had increasingly problematic hamstring issues the past couple of years.

At best he is a decent #3 WR, at worst, he is something of a joke again this season.

IMHO, it would be best for all parties to let him go.

Cut Austin, move on, not the team, the fans. I said it before il say it again, i dont care if you own a ferrari if it spends more time in the shop than on the road.

and Jerry gets accused of being too loyal? lol Miles is a good guy but damn he can't stay on the field

I'm ready to move on. We can find a much cheaper and healthier option to fulfill his role. I would rather have Harris play instead of him. At least I know that Harris runs his routes hard, fights for the ball when it is in the air and gives max effort. Miles not so much.

NFL on Earth. Have you watched the games? You know that when Nnamdi allowed 250 yards and 1 TD in 2009 about 150 and the TD came from Miles, wasn't one big play either, he had about 8 catches. Nnamdi allowed about 18 all year.

Then you brought up one game. Never mind

Maybe, but I doubt it. There will be a sizable market for him, with the way this draft is looking to shake out Austin could easily be the #1 WR in New England, or the #2 pass option in NO after Jimmy Graham. San Diego could also want to bring him in and slide him next to Keenan Allen. Also, he is the absolute ideal #1 in the Panthers system if Steve Smith is gone. There are a dozen teams that will likely be bidding for him, he's not Ware in that we are the only team that will pay him big bucks. He's going to make about $5M with us this season, not ridiculous to think he can get more than that on the open market, it may be a one year prove it Aqib Talib type deal, but with so many teams that have crazy cap space he could definitely manage to pull a 1 yr 6.5M contract or so. A team like the Panthers, Saints or New England would likely be willing to lock him up for 3 years at 18-20M.

This is a deep draft and free agency at WR for sure, but not many WRs have proven to have the mental grasp of the game, and maturity that Miles has. Can't see New England or New Orleans bringing in a dense clown, so Miles certainly has a spot in this league as a #2 WR at worst. Even if NE or NO was able to get a rookie they'd like I doubt either would be foolish enough not to bring in a sure thing as well.

What in his injury riddled last 3 years makes you believe this...... putting your username aside?

Dallas doesn't have to decide on Miles until after the Draft. If they cut him it will be as a June 1st cut so they don't get the savings until June 2nd anyways. By that time most of the FA money will have been spent and teams will have filled their problem spots. His best chance will be to sign on as an injury replacement. If he would take a pay cut equal to cutting him, I would keep him another year. He can play both inside and out and is effective when healthy. If they get a WR in the draft or a bargain in FA, then they can cut him loose.

If Miles is cut, I would hate to see Dallas use an early draft pick on an outside WR because they will need one from somewhere, preferably a FA.

If you can guarantee me that in week 3 he is not sitting in the hot tub in the trainer's room..............you know, the place he has spent most of the last 2 seasons.

As Stephen Jones said............."you cant make the club in the tub".

It's very plausible; he does not have a lot of options given his lack of production last year. It's also very plausible that the Cowboys cut him June 1st and use that money to sign their rookie draft picks.

He had 2 good season outside of that he is injured. Look i like him but he has not shown he can stay healthy. You are talking 5 to 6 mill for a part time player? NO Dallas has some very good young WR on this team and while I do like Miles I can't see Dallas continuing down this road with him.

I don't think it is a lack of effort I think he has some serious hamstring issues that constantly present problems for him. While I think highly of Miles I think Dallas should move on.

You might be correct on that. The film just seems to show that there is lack of effort, but having bad hammy's is not an easy thing to overcome as a WR.
