I never dreamed I would post on this board. And I certainly never dreamed it would be to express my sincere appreciation for the kindness of the posters here.
Obviously, as a Commander fan, I've spent most of the last two days mourning the loss of Sean Taylor. I truly feel like I've been repeatedly kicked in the gut.
First I heard he was shot. My heart sunk. Then I heard he was shot in the leg. My hopes rose, as I thought he had a fighting chance. Then I heard his femoral artery was severed. Again, my heart sunk. But when I heard he was squeezing the hand of nurses, and he had survived that first 24 hours, I believed he was out of the woods as far as survival.
Then at about 6 a.m. yesterday, I checked Extremeskins one last time before leaving work, and learned that Sean was gone. I had no choice but to leave work, pick up some flowers, and head to Commanders Park.
I fully expected to meet with other Skins fans there, and grieve with them, which I did. What I didn't expect was the overwhelming outpouring of support from Cowboys Nation. It's been incredible, thread after thread after thread, of you fine fans posting your blessings, prayers and well-wishes.
It has been truly incredible to see the support we've received from our on-field rivals. Everything from posts on our site, to changing the background color of your own, and your tribute to Sean. Please understand that it HAS helped, and we do appreciate it.
I'm glad to know that whatever our rivalries, we can set aside our differences and support each other in times of need. I commed you all deeply for that. Your support has been so moving, that I can't help but root for you guys against the Pack tomorrow night.
I really don't know what else to say, except a heartfelt thank you, and God bless you for all you've done to help us in difficult times. Dec. 30th is going to be extremely difficult for me. For most of my life, I've seen you guys as the enemy. Now I fully understand the difference between "enemies" and "rivals."
You guys will always be our rivals. But thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being our friends as we deal with the death of Sean.
God bless you all.
Jason
