Frankly I am tired of it. I do not feel that this season was a success. The defense is improved, but as of right now they are not on the path to being the 2000 Ravens and with Dallas offense that is exactly what we need.
Here are my concerns for next year in no particular order:
Defense
1. Linebackers - Ware and James are good to go. We still need an inside and outside guy. Maybe Burnett steps in and makes an impact, but at this point that is merely wishful thanking as he is an unknown commodity.
2. Defense Line - Spears had an OK season. Nothing special, but not bad. Jason Ferguson had an OK season as well, but obviously did not play up to expectations. Canty is good to go, no issues there. Ellis and Glover likely gone? The D-Line again is average. Not great at stopping the run or rushing the passer.
In summary the secondary is far from perfect (Free Safety), but I think they are at least close to Superbowl caliber. I think next year Ware should be a better pass rusher, but if he is the only pass rusher we have, teams will scheme him. I think the defense will be above average to good, but not dominant.
Offense
1. Not sold on Bledsoe at all. I dont blame him for Dallas season, but not sure he is the short term answer. I am positive he is not the long term answer due to age.
2. I love Julius to death. I think he could be an elite back, but in order to be that elite back you have to stay on the field. I like Barber, but not as a feature back. Tyson Thompson is 100% speed and hype and not much else.
3. Offensive Line...do I really need to go there? Larry Allen not great and another year older. Flozell we have, but hardly great and coming off a knee injury. Al Johnson...not sold on him at all. Rivera give me a break. Pettitti, hopefully another offseason will do him a world of good.
4. Johnson and Glenn will be 34 and 32 respectively. Surely that is not a good thing. I love Crayton, but if he can not take a starting job from Glenn or KJ that has to say something.
TE good to go, after that it gets dicey in my opinion. Another season of being "forced" to play conservative will be disastrous IMO. Our offense needs a major overhaul. Another year of being "forced" to play conservative will result in Dallas hoping and praying for some help at the end of the season just to sniff a wild card spot.
I know many like to point at our 9-7 or 10-6 record (yet to be determined), but make no mistake we are in the NFC. Had this team been in the AFC you can be assured our record would not be a winning one. I do believe the intention is to build a team capable of winning a Superbowl and not just looking like a contender in the NFC.
This team needs some serious work. This team is not a band aid away from a Superbowl win, but we are a few band aids away from being in another rebuilding mode two or three years down the road.
Sorry for the negativity, but right now that is honestly the way I feel. I know next year I will be pumped because of the draft, FA, X player looking good in training camp and so on and so forth.
Can't wait till next year. We will Get'Em Next Year!!!
