My wedding was going to be a basic Justice of the Peace thing, but when I showed up with my fiancée, there were TV crews everywhere.
I got worried, but was sure nobody knew who I was going in.
It turned out that the Judge presiding was in the middle of a high profile double manslaughter case of exactly your scenario.

We ended up getting married during a break in the action.

My wife didn't even know we could sit in on the trial and witness, lol.
I had to get the bailiff to tell her it was okay before she was comfortable with the situation.
