Please be a trade.

Is that how it works? They have to sign the tender to be traded? I figured we could rescind the tag on contingency.

He just wants to guarantee he gets paid wherever he is. Hope we work a long term deal ASAP or we will basically put the same product on the field next year

My best guess is this is an attempt to force the Cowboys hand.

I dunno if that's the exact formal process. Honestly, I'm just praying.

Just thinking about it though, it seems like it might need to be or might be preferred.

If you simply traded to be in Dallas' position there really nothing that guarantees the player wouldn't just hold out. At least with the tender signed, he's committed to playing..........I guess?

I dunno really.

So does this mean we're over the cap now?

I think the cap space he takes up was already included once the tag was applied.

I don't blame Spencer for doing this fast. if Jerry is stupid enough to to pay him almost 10 million dollars a year for one good season, i would jump on it too.they should have let this guy go.keeping him only added to the cap hell the cowboys are in. nobody is going to trade for Spencer. we are stuck with paying him all that money this year.STUPID!

He's a damn good player and a damn good edge rusher. Teams never let those guys go in their prime.

We would've been idiots if we let him walk.

Clients Henry Melton, Bears, and Anthony Spencer, Cowboys, have both accepted their franchise tenders. We will now focus on long term deals

No doubt about it! Spencer will be a beast at that DE spot too, we would be fools not to sign him. Some folks don't get it though. Smh!!!!

Yes, this means absolutely nothing except that Dallas is on the hook for the franchise money unless a new deal gets done or a trade is worked out.

The only thing off the table would be another team signing him and Dallas receiving the compensation designated by the tag.

Some of you folks are missing the point. we are an 8 and 8, team even with guys like Spencer. and have missed the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years.he had one good year this past season, and JJ up and pays him 10 million dollars a year. did we learn nothing after paying guys like Austin and M. Barber, a lot of money after one good year. stop bringing the same players back and expecting a different result.

Trade Spencer for Melton and we all live happily ever after.

All due respect... But you are basing that he will be a beast in a position he has not played in The NFL in a defensive scheme he has no true NFL experience in with a new defensive coach??

I wouldn't necessarily guarantee success until the player who has had one breakout year proves it consistently

Not saying he won't, but buyer beware

He played it for 4yrs in college and was a monster. He made the transition to OLB as a rookie in the NFL, he's very familiar with the position and in my eyes I've always liked him better as a DE. To me, this wasn't a break out year for Spencer, he's always been very steady, sets the edge well, and does a outstanding job against the run. I think he'll do it even better with his hand in the dirt.
