After making the Pro Bowl, he won't go for that. He will want more money.

And after reading that article, he may be enticed to go to the Jets or Bills to reunite with Bowles or Rex Ryan. So there will be competition for his services. There were no other takers when he signed that cheap deal in Arizona.

There you have it, I doubt the Cowboys will go into a spending spree for a 31 year old. I think they want to stay young and cheap

He'll be 31 so he shouldn't require a big contract. He was in the Pro Bowl this year. He played 2014 on a 1-year 3.5M contract.
He was absolutely horrible last year, he got toasted like crazy. Luckily for him he was in the right spot like 4-5 times, made a couple of lame interceptions that dropped right into his hands, passes that were WAY off the receiver. Just horrible throws. Go watch the tape. Demaryius Thomas dropped 300+ yards and 3 TDs on him. He's always stumbling around, falling down, blowing coverages, leaving guys wide open. His tackling is probably the worst in the NFL. If that's who you want then I'm not sure what your goal is.

No way I want this bozo on my team. Pro Bowl yeah right...

How did he play this year?

He's not my first choice but at 3.5M he is a much better option than Carr at 8M.

Interesting critique. He was rated as the 10th best CB in the league.

I'd hate to read to review of the 30th best CB. ;)

Would you rather have Carr for 9 or Cromartie for 4?

No brainer to go after him, imo.

But your cap hit for carr is 12 million rather you keep him or cut him. So your still have the big cap hit plus another player.

My thing with Cromartie is that he has always played in a 34 man scheme and wouldn't be any better than carr. So why add 4 to 5 million to the cap.

If we cut Carr it's a 12 million cap hit. I hate June 1st cuts but say we do we will not get that money until June 1st. So that will not help us this offaeason.

I think the best thing to do is get carr at a much reduced rate. I'm also fine with adding Cromartie for cheap. Scandrick carr and Cromartie would be a nice 3.

We have no clue how or when claiborne will be healthy

So is Woodson and I've been for calling him out retirement the last few years. It would still be an upgrade.

Depends on the price, obviously. If Jerry wants to rebuild the D, drafting would be the number one way to do it.

Cromartie would give Mincey and Selvie more time to get to the QB.

At this point we're going to have to hope we come up with 4 Deion Sanders clones in order to give them enough time to really get to the QB. Especially Selvie.

That does not matter. That money hits the cap at some point with or without him on the team. There will be dead money, but they free up 8M in 2015 by making him a June 1st cut.

When a player is on the team and you consider his total cap impact for all years:
Total Cap Hit = Base Salary + Prorated Money

When the player is cut his total cap impact for all years:
Total Cap Hit = Dead Money

When all years are considered:
Dead Money = Prorated Money

In other words once his Base Salary = Zero the Total Cap Impact is the same. Cutting the player just changes how much hits the cap in specific years, but the overall Total for all years combined is exactly the same for Prorated Money and Dead Money. The difference is the Base Salary gets paid when the player is on the team but is Zero when he is gone.

what I meant was that prorated $4mil is spent either way, it can either be $4mil towards Carr's salary or $4mil dead money and you still have to put a CB on the field.

The prorated money on Carr's contract becomes dead money if he is cut. That money hits the cap at some point with or without him on the team. Despite the dead money they get 8M of cap space in 2015 if they make him a June 1st cut.

His base salary is the only real difference. It is zero if he is cut. It's currently scheduled to be 8M if he stays.

If they cut him and replace him with a guy that has a 4M base salary then the gain 4M in cap space. It's that simple.

According to who? Those PFF fantasy football geeks? Yeah, they know football alright. 2 years ago their highest ranked cornerback was Antonio Winfield, a nickelback. For his run support. A backup was ranked above the likes of Revis, Sherman and company. Stop wasting your money on these idiots...

Cromartie has like 15 kids by 12 baby mommas and reads at like a 4th grade level....but I'd still take him over Carr at this point
