I did sheet metal work and worked with both of those professions. Electricians can really make a good living, especially in an industrial setting.

I am an electronics engineer but worked as a part time electrician(full time military) to help pay for my education. Being an electrician can be a very rewarding financially but it's hard work if you do it right. Having a more analytical mind, I never wanted to work that hard. I'm not sure I could sufficiently answer your questions but I can try. Fire away.

I've been an industrial maintenance journeyman electrician for the past 18 years and now foreman for the past 3.

I currently make 32 a hour as a foreman.

new construction jobs pay their journeyman that now a days.

electrical is a great field to get into...there will always be a need for electricians.

when you understand what can and not hurt you...it's a great field.

you have to remember not to fear electricity...but respect it.

always..always make sure the power is dead yourself. don't ever take someone's word for it.

Ive heard their job opportunities are really up and down though.

haha

im a commercial property manager...the field is short supplied and as the generation that knows what they're doing retires, we're left with idiots trying to work on this stuff....if you'd set your mind to actually learn, you'd have a job anytime, all the time.

Hey, Jwitten. I'm Lane's wife, he's asleep right now. He's working night shift on a shutdown. Last night was only the third night he's had off in gosh, 42 days I guess. Every 14 days they get one day off. One of the perks of working in a plant. lol. Anyway, I can answer your question for you, so you don't have to wait until tomorrow morning for an answer. He is nonunion. Some jobs are union jobs, his is not.

I can tell you that it is great having an electrician around the house. :)

I'm not an HVAC tech, but I'm an equipment supplier and I have family that own an AC contracting co.

Being an HVAC tech opens a lot of doors in the industry and there are some pretty great jobs.

And there will always be a need, especially if you live in Dallas. People basically need AC here and they break down quite regularly in the brutal heat.
