I know it's part of the boring offseason having silly threads asking about Boldin-Winston-Harrison-Wilson, so I thought I would start a thread that involves players who would actually make this Cowboys team better now & in the future..These 2 players are turning 27 & 26 before the season starts & I am guessing the only way we would be able to make a play on one of these 2, Vasquez being the more realistic maybe, would be to get a deal done with Romo & cutting Spears/Free/Vickers?? Anyone have a prediction on what these guys will be paid, being 2 of the top OG's?

Dallas won't go after either after signing two young guards last year. Best we can hope is that the Cowboys will replace a veteran backup like Dockery with a vet backup like Bobbie Williams, who is still better than either guy we've got starting at guard.

The 2 guards I am talking about (Levitre,Vasquez) both rank in the top 10 at the guard position in the league.. Livings is not young, he will be turning 31 on the 16th of this month.. Bernadeau is 27 yes, but both of those guys were signed to small deals & got Romo killed plenty of times. If Jerry can somehow get a deal done with Romo, he must try to address this position in FA with guys who have proven themselves in the league, not just based on hope like he did with Livings/Bernadea.

I sure hope so. Sign Levitre and draft Warmack, and this thing looks a whole lot different.

We don't need quality players on the OL. Remember, our genius GM already told us how well Romo can operate behind a "porous" (Jerry's own description, BTW) OL and that they just need more "weapons" to be successful.

Remember that quote when you look back come the opening of training camp and realize that we have done nothing substantial to help our OL. By substantial I mean a solid FA signing or a pick in the top 2 rounds of the draft. I do fully expect a draft pick in rounds 4-7 and perhaps a FA signing off of the three-for-a-quarter rack of the Dollar Store during the next few weeks.

Championship!!! :) :)

No?

Oh, so that ends that.

Right now it doesn't appear so, but that could change if a deal is struck with Romo. That is why I included his name, along with guys who could be cut in the future to free up $

Oh, so that ends that.

We can get the money and contracts are set up for years and the first year will be low, we have planty of future money. We can make any contract work.

Levitre and Winston should have Dallas interest no doubt. Levitre will get better deals elsewhere so I doubt it and we can draft an OG early. RT is more important IMO. I like vazquez but don't think he fits the scheme.

Sign Winston and draft Cooper and Schwenke.

Levitre looking 8-9 mill, dont see that working. Perfect world sign Levitre and Winston, slide Livings to RG for a year, then you can use draft to plug holes other side of the ball.

In a perfect world you want to use the draft to fill needs?

No thank you.

The salary demands of quality guards is another reason to draft an oline instead of buying one. Good linemen are expensive.

I would take Vasquez today over the two bums we have now. He is strong as an ox. Very intriguing and I doubt he will covet 8 million.

And again I'm saying it won't happen. Dallas got the FA guards it wanted last offseason. Those were the players the coaches targeted and brought in. I see no way they will target their replacements in FA.

They would be more likely to target an OT with Free failing last year, but I think they want more of a challenger to Parnell there than a high-priced starter.

The best we can hope for is that they target some vet backups who can challenge the guards and tackles, or they address the line within the first few rounds of the draft.

So did you think that we had the cap room to franchise Spencer?

And at the moment, we don't, as we are currently over the cap. Got two days to rectify that. Then we need to clear even more room if we want to sign a FA much less one of significant cost. And eventually, still more room to sign our draft picks.

Yes, cap room is a concern and we are runniing out of big contracts from which to free up money.

i think Louis Vasquez will come "cheap" if you consider his valuve, if u wan't a guard in FA, that's the guy who bring the most for the money we can afford
