Hey guys, has anybody heard anything about that new football league that was suppossed to be starting up? I think it is going to be called the UFL or something and Mark Cuban is suppossed to be one of the owners.

I have not heard much and I thought they were going to start playing in 2009, so there is not alot of time left to get teams together, ect....

I really dont think it is going to amount to much because of 1 main reason......TV contracts. The NFL will play hardball with the networks and if they want to keep their NFL contracts they better not televise any of the UFL games. So that means no UFL games on FOX, CBS, NBC, ESPN & ABC (same parent company),

The other major problem I see is where are the teams going to play? I imagine the NFL will not allow their stadiums to be used for any UFL games, so we are talking either college or high school stadiums.

If the UFL does launch in 2009, I give it 2 seasons before they close up shop. The NFL is not going to allow any competitive league from getting off the ground.

My .02

Here's a wiki page on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Football_League_(2008)

Seems 2 locations have been finalized (Hartford and Vegas) w/ 4 more to be announced.

The page also indicates that they may try to get Vick on board once he finishes his sentence. If true, I can imagine the league being littered w/ thugs like Henry and Thurman.

It may also affect the pool of udfas and late round draft picks.

It's hard for a new league to compete w/ the NFL, and I personally think that this is destined to fail. But, I also wouldn't underestimate Cuban, the best thing the league has going for them right now.

if they play in the Spring or early summer, i am all for it. I can use more football while waiting for the Cowboys (and NFL) season to start.

I thought one of the rules was the player had to have graduated with a degree?

No Vinny McMahon isn't involved in this one. :laugh2:

I actually liked some of the rules and the ball was cool.

Dang I was looking foward to more players like "HE Hate Me"...

Really? That rule doesn't make much sense.

I actually liked the XFL a lot, and was sad to see it end.

It was all about the Memphis Maniacs, with Jim Drunkenmiller and Alvin harper.

Well, not so much Harper.
