Any opinions on D. Dockery of the Skins in FA?

What do you think? Is he a worthwhile pick-up to possibly replace Rivera?

He will probably also come cheaper than Steinbach, for example.

I thought he's definitely improved over the last half of the season - and it showed in the running game for sure.

is he unrestricted? He did go to Texas. I believe he was a T at Texas. Interesting

Unless re-signed in the next few weeks, I thought he's available.

He's a pretty big guy as well. Gurode's size, I think.

He's worth a look-see at least. We do need to upgrade at guard.

He reminds of the linemen we had in the 90's, big and strong. Not quite the athletic, quicker linemen we have picked under Parcells. With the 90's offensive guys returning to the fold it wouldn't suprise me at all to see him one of our targets in the offseason. Put him between Gurode and Columbo and we should be set on the right side for the next five years.

That's what I think as well.

He's sort of the opposite of a Kosier type lineman.

I think Dockery is more of a mauler, strong at point of attack - like the guys we had in Nate Newton, etc. Dockery's strengths are not getting to the second level, for example, and pulling (Kosier).

Anyway, I thought he would be more cost effective than some of the other names out there.

i agree with this and esp the more cost effective part.
Frankly, RG is one of my biggest offseason concerns...I think some decent coaching can fix most of the rest of our issues. I really hope Rivera retires so we can reclaim some of his cap hit....even so, Rivera needs to be gone..he was horrible all season.

Derrick Dockery would be a definite upgrade from Rivera. My son went to Middle School and Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland with him. He has loads of potential, not the best work ethics. Could be dominating but many times has to be pushed. However in saying this hes big, strong and I believe if same age as my son probbaly about 25 now, which is still young. In saying all of this I would have no problem with signing Derrick Dockery and letting Rivera walk....none whatsoever because its a step up for the Boyz.

Also I believe Derrick Dockery was a 4 year Starter at Texas. Hes probably similar maybe not quite as good as Justin Blaylock OL coming out of Texas now, but not bad either. If you can get him for a reasonable price at age 25 go and get it done. If anything its more Depth.

Dockery would be a huge score if the Cowboys got him, but I doubt the skins will let him hit the streets.

I hope they franchise him and pay him top 5 OT money, we can choose from him, Kris Dielman and Eric Steinbach

Do we really want any Commanders on our team?.:ralph: They will always have that smell about them.

Dockery is decent at G, not special. From what I've seen, he's a pretty good pass protector and a decent run blocker when he's got his guy right in front of him. Not real good in space, decent, but not actually dominating at the point of attack. Very reliable and hasn't hardly missed a game at Washington.

He's also benefitted a lot from having Gibbs and Bugel running the offense, and a lot of stability on that OL. Other than Casey Rabach missing a few snaps near the end of last year, the Commanders have started the same 5 offensive linemen, in the same offensive scheme for 32 straight games, I think. His play might regress a little bit in a new offense, with a lot of turnover along the line.

The Commanders will try to keep him. It'll be interesting to see what his salary demands are, and how they come up with the cap room. They're already signing 32 year old special teamers to contract extensions to free up cap space. Oh those wacky Commanders...

He's a lot like Gurode. You'll love his size and athleticism, but makes a lot of mental errors. Probably a significant upgrade over Rivera and at times very good, but I wouldn't send the house to get him. Eric Steinbach is a far better guard that can also play tackle in a pinch.

Yes, everyone knows Steinbach is the best guard prospect out there. But if the cost difference is vast, Dockery is somebody we need to know about. The best deals we can get, the better we'll be suited to go after Asante Samuel.

Since the mid-90s, Dallas' problems have been that there's never been a coherent plan in place for the OL.

Dockery's a good player but if you sign him to replace Rivera, you'll need to replace Kosier also. Their styles don't mesh but that's been the problem. Quality players who don't fit together well.

Pick a scheme and stick to it. Zone blocking didn't work in Dallas because they didn't have five linemen who fit that scheme and Dallas didn't commit to getting five players at the same time.

There's a players who could fit any scheme, any design but those players don't grow on trees.

being an upgrade over Rivera is like being the valedictorian of summer school.

I doubt Washington will allow him to hit the market...he was one of their pleasant surprises this year, playing much better than they had hoped.

As of right now, Washington's over the cap and there are a ton of teams with more than $20 million under the cap.

Any agent that allows their client to take anything less than a ridiculous offer without hitting free agency should be barred by the NFLPA.

We're going to see what we think are insane deals to mediocre players this year.
