Any Regrets?

I was Just thinking about some of the threads I've read here on the Zone, on the COwboys Being Interested in a certain player, or needing to tweak a position with someone who was an FA, or was released by another team.

That said, interested in knowing if there were any players that the Cowboy's GM had an opportunity to acquire but didn't for one reason or another? And, do any of you have any regrets for any players that were passed up on that you wanted as Cowboys?

For me, I'm still watching Ashley Lelie, Eric Moulds, and Javon Walker to determine if they are going to work out with their respective teams. I do know that Bentley (the Eagles were Hot on his trail) was unfortunately injured and will not be with the Browns this year. While I'm sorry to hear about their loss, the Eagles are breathing a sigh of relief on that one.

But somehow, you never know how any particular player "would have" or "could have" turned out if they had come to your team. Simply because a player is injured on one team does not mean that they would have been injured on your team ...unless that person had an injury was Not completely healed and could have been reinjured regardless of where he played. Also, even though a player flops on another team, or is non-effective, doesn't necessarily translate into not being the opposite in another Playbook situation on another team.

Retrospectively, are there any players that the Cowboys released, let go, or otherwise are not employed as a Cowboys player, that has gone to another team and excelled? For me, that one Player that we released came back and has become a beast ...that's Trotter.

Any comments/thoughts...

Since we are paying our QB's and Tackles so little, looking back I would love to have had Hutch over Kosier at any price.

He is one of the best OL in the game now and still young at 27 or 28.

Isn't that the truth......guess he was just to expensive for us

Just curious ...who is Hutch playing with now?

The jury is still out on Cowboys receiver #81, but I do still kind of regret losing talent. While Stallworth is not in the exact same league, he does provide a comfortable condolence prize.

I also have my eyes on Keyshawn Johnson ...but you guys don't play the Panthers this year.

And the fact we had absolutely zero chance to get him. The second be became a free agent, Minnesota signed him to that wacky contract that went to arbitration between the Seahawks and Vikings.

I believe that contract guarantees that he will be the highest paid lineman for the length of the deal.

No comments or thought here, ... but I do have a question.

How does the Iggles nation feel about losing a player such as Kearse, in an OT period that they should have never been in ?

An overtime period that was the result of ineptitude from the coach, down through the QB/leader on down.

I would think Iggle fans would be wringing their hands that they lost Kearse as a result of a total collapse.

Had they not had a total meltdown in the 4th qtr, Kearse would still be playing.

What a shame for him as well.

October 29th in Charlotte

also, BTW PT...

I was wishing BADLY that before Trotter signed that one year with the Rumpskins that Dallas would make a move for him back in the late 90's... He's a hoss... PLUS, he's from Texas

I was amazed how big a difference Trotter made to the middle of that defense. I think the Eagles were more surprised than I was. I miss that soft run D.

Interesting question.

The Cowboys signed several free agents this offseason. Counting Vanderjadt, there are 4 FA starters. Several rookies also made the team; two are starting.

So, as a Cowboys fan, I haven't thought much at all about "missed opportunities." My focus is on the guys who were acquired.

There are a bunch of people on this board who wished we'd drafted differently. The Ware/Merriman debate is something that may never go away.

Although it's died down a little because of the promise shown by McQuisten, many people are probably still upset we didn't use a first day pick on an offensive tackle.

Vanderjackass' antics are getting old real quick.

I assume you are talking about just the present season/offseason...

I realize he is injured right now, but I would rather we had signed Vinatieri...

I was also hoping for Charles, but so far we are doing pretty well at the C positition...

Not quite but close, the contract said his deal would be guaranteed if he was not the highest paid OL on the team. The Seahawks couldn't have matched it without screwing up their cap because Walter Jones has a bigger contract. Minnesota had no such issues, though it will be interesting to see what happens when McKinnie's deal needs to get redone.
