From the practice report, it says he had a sack yesterday, saw a interview with Marinelli who said he keeps jumping out at him at camp.

Any of you Texas Tech fans have a feel for him?

Seems on the smaller side 6'1 255.

Looks like he had 6 sacks in 2012.

Seems like every year someone we've hardly heard of at a;; pops up and to everyone's surprise. is announced as one that the Cowboys' organization is excited about and looking for good things to come from. I'm thinking maybe Dartwan Bush is that guy this year. I know I haven't heard much of anything about this fella at all but now that it's out, maybe he'll get some additional attention. As badly as we need a pass rush, I'd take all the help we can get. Thanks for the heads up.

It is showings just like this, that makes a training camp so satisfying...even if the Turk shows up at it's conclusion.

True. There is always at least one guy who comes out of nowhere. Maybe he is the out of nowhere guy this year.

Bryan B's take:

He is physically not the most impressive player when you stand next to him on the field but he does play with several traits that gives him a chance to succeed. He is relentless when he is coming off the ball. There is a burst along with initial quickness. He can get on the blocker quickly and his technique has improved since his first days on the squad. You see him work combinations with his hands as he is moving up the field. At this point, he is a much better player against the pass than he is the run but for a defense that is looking for healthy bodies to line up and play, Dartwan Bush has opened a few eyes with his play so far.

Every time I see #70 in videos of TC practice, he looks really good.

I see the following fighting for 1 or 2 roster spots:
Dartwan Bush
Caesar Rayford
Martez Wilson
Ben Gardner

I've seen Bush play for the past few years at Tech. He's small, by normal DE standards. His physique is more fit to be a OLB in a 3-4, but he's never had to play in coverage. That being said, he was just about the quickest guy off the ball I've ever seen at the college level. Once again for a college player, his technique was very solid and he beat much larger OLmen with his speed and quickness. My biggest concern would be his size...can he take the pounding he'll take at this level?

He "looks" to have a more solid build than Martez Wilson or Kyle Wilber who are other options as pass rushers.

The Right or Weak-Side DE in Marinelli's scheme can be a smaller player than what is required in a 4-3 like the Giant run. Also, both DE can be smallish in the Nickel defense. If Bush has good pass rush skills, they can use him in the Nickel defense. They have several players that should be solid in the base defense like Mincey, Crawford and Selvie. Gardner would also be good in the base defense if he makes the team. It's the really quick pass rushers that are in short supply.

Good to hear the insight. All in all, as light as he is and where he is likely to be on the depth chart, he is going to have to be a special teams contributor. Did he do that at Texas Tech?

Russell Maryland and Warren Sapp looked silly in their uniforms, but played like whirling derbishes.

I doubt this guy has much, but that's what preseason is for.

I like more size as well, but Charles Haley wasn't any bigger and he had a pretty good career.

This guy reminds me of John Randle, another undrafted undersized DT who went on to a HOF carreer with the Vikings.

Haley didn't play inside now did he?

The whole "well one guy did it" argument is really very silly. What's next a comment on a small college player's chances that goes "but Larry Allen did it"

Inside? Bush is a DE, not DT.

Bush is a lot like a Greg Spires or a Darryl Tapp, both of whom had some success in this type of system.

Bush is listed at 6'1, 265 on the official roster. About the same size as Dwight Freeney. In this scheme, speed and explosiveness trumps size. I'm rooting for this guy.
