I know we didn't pick up any players off of the waiver wire, but did we make any claims for players that a team in front of us also claimed?

Broaddus had a tweet saying we made no claim attempts but that is the only comment I have seen.

EDIT....maybe it wasn't Broaddus because I can't find it now, but there was a tweet by one of the regular writers.

Possible, but would have to be these:

browns_logo.jpg

They were awarded running back George Atkinson, defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun, defensive back Marcus Burley, defensive end Tyrone Holmes, and linebacker Corey Lemonier.

They used their priority position to add three players, claiming CB Pierre Desir from Cleveland, DT Caraun Reid from Detroit and RB Andre Williams from the New York Giants.

I take it Sand Diego is moving to a 4-3 because Reid makes no sense in a 3-4 defense. Disappointing I would have like to see him in Dallas.

Lemonier would also have been interesting, very good motor and could be just strong enough to play left end in this defense.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It was Todd Archer. From his comments, no claims were made.

I've seen some people upset about not bringing in people and I cant understand why. Why would you want people who couldnt make their original club and think they were going to make a difference here ? Chances are, they wouldnt stick around here either.

Um, every team doesn't play the same scheme, so a guy that doesn't fit in one might fit in another. One team may have a lot of good RB's, like Dallas does, and another might have good WR's.....the depth across the league isn't the same at every position.

Have you seen our DE's and LB's and S's? Not a stretch to think there is better talent out there somewhere.

That kind of misguided thinking is very prevalent on this board unfortunately. However it could not be more wrong. Even the experts miss on good players, even the great ones.

Hall of Famers who were cut at least once:

Johnny Unitas (yes, that Johnny Unitas!!), George Blanda, Len Dawson, QB Jack Kemp, C Jim Langer, DB Willie Brown, OL Bob Kuchenberg, TE Todd Christiansen, QB Warren Moon, DL John Randle

Other notable cuts that went on to have pro bowl careers:

Kurt Warner
Jimmy Smith
Nate Newton
Wes Welker
Rod Smith (WR)
Brian Waters
James Harrison
Jason Peters
Miles Austin
Jeff Saturday
Adam Vinatieri
Arian Foster

Teams cut very good players all the time. You'll notice that several of those cuts were by our very own Cowboys.

Can't believe we are staying put with our DEs.

  • The only thing we can do now is pray that Tapper heals up for his back injury/ soreness and develops quickly into a rookie passrushing phenom ( which rookies seldom do) or that Mayowa switches into another gear and proves that his 30 games for 24 tackles and 2 sacks is not a true indicator of his skill level.
  • Then again, Irving has shown some promise, after playing in 12 games in 2 seasons, he has collected 13 tackles and 0.5 sacks. Also, when Gregory comes back from his 4 -14 week suspension, he will be able to chip in with his 11 tackles and 0 sacks in 12 games.
  • But to be fair, there are those who suggest that sacks aren't everything and that pressures are important also. Lawrence was ranked 108th in pressures, Gregory 131 , T Crawford was 63rd in pressures. Did you know that Paul Kruger was released and we made no attempt at him and he was 5th in the NFL in pressures.
I gotta believe that we are stocking piling RBs for a trade. A help has to be on the way because these DEs are not impressing.

Do you know how rare it is for those kind of players you named to happen ? Extremely rare. And I would about bet, the front office thinks something along those same lines. They believe people they have are better than anyone that was released from other teams. Hence, no signings

That's a loser mentality IMO. Thinking you are unable to continuously improve are trademarks of the Cowboys greatest coaches. Landry, Jimmy and Parcells churned the bottom of their rosters constantly.

And you dont think JG and Jerry dont churn the bottom of the roster throughout the season ? You should go back and check out some of the transactions they made during the season since JG was named HC.

They are not churning now. Even when they should be exploring more invasive solutions. Cowboys cannot generate ANY pressure from the edges especially at RDE.

I see what you're saying and I do wonder if they will get any kind of pressure from the edges. I know they are hoping it all comes from up the middle, and I believe thats what they are betting on. It's what made the Carolina Panthers D so good last couple of seasons. People want to say it was Hardy and Charles Johnson. But really it was their DT's. Nothing messes with a QB more than having pressure right in their face. Just hope it pays off
