Used to watch the John Davidson version and a bit of the Tom Bergeron.
But really the recently departed, Peter Marshall was the "Master of" the Hollywood Squares.
Perfect straight man to comic foils like the late Paul Lynde, the late Rose Marie, the late Morey Amsterdam, the late Charley Weaver, the late Wally Cox just to name a few.

I used to watch the show as a kid sometimes. I missed a lot of the humor due to my age, but to me it was a cool concept to play tic-tac-toe in a gameshow. Now that I'm older I get all the jokes. I never watched the newer versions.

I used to love the show, but eventually it seemed like a lot of the comic responses were scripted, like they knew the questions beforehand.
