Are you guys concerned that we didn't address the DT spot? With Ferg getting up there in age and no proven player behaind him. I would hate to see us go into the season with just Ferg and Stanley who has been cut twice by us before. Stanley @ 6-2 and 310LBs has the size but lacks experience and like I said was cut twice by us and I think was not more of a practice squad player for another team.

If we draft a guy in the draft, which is not a very good group,we still don't know what we are getting. After Okoye, who is now the #1 DT in this draft, there is a major drop off. Branch, from Michigan is watching his stock drop because of the concern about his weight and conditioning. The rest of the DT's in this draft have major questions. Here are some examples:

1) Justin Harrell,Tennessee: 6'5 and 300Lb's is coming off a ruptured Bicep tendon. He is more of a run stopper than a pass rusher.Probably more of a 4-3 DT.

2) Tank Tyler,NCState: 6'2 and 306LB's is a strong kid who benched 225Lb's at the combine 42 times. Does do a good job splittting double-teams and moves piles. But, he was arrested following an altercation at a nightclub. He was suspended for a game for spitting toward an offical and was suspended for part of 2005 season. He does have the most upside but will have to answer to these off/on issues.

3) Marcus Thomas, Florida: 6'3 and 314LB's once was a promising talent and potential first round pick,Thomas was DISMISSED from the Gators midway thru the season after failing a drug test. He does possess tantalizing mix of speed and power. Character questions makes his stock questionable.

4) Antonio Johnson,Missi State,6'3 and 310 LB's is a 4-3 takle who is a work in progress. Johnson is riding a strong finish to last year into predraft workouts. Barely played football in High School. A Raw player who needs to develope.

5) Paul Soliai,Utah: 6'4 and 325 lb and a raw talent with only two years of defense experience after moving from guard.A good run stuffer but not good being a pass rusher. Conditioning is questionable and was suspended from the team's bowl game.

Now this is just of the few guys who could fit,who have major questions about them ,whether it is health or character. I am not saying to take a shot on one of them but not to count on them. In my opinion,we should make a run for Carolina's Kris Jenkins. He is 27 years old,a probowler and if he can stay healthy could be a nice replacement for Ferg. We should give a third for Jenkins and a conditional pick in '08. Basically,Jenkins is way better than any player we would pick in this draft.

So,with that said,I hope the Cowboys feel the same and get some depth with Jenkins. What do you guys think?:starspin Links: Mike Mayock,Path To The Draft

I think Dallas will bring in another NT be it in the draft or in FA.

But Who? Who is worthy?

Well I expect Fugerson to start but he does need someone to help as a backup. You mentioned a few names in the draft and as for FA remember teams will be forced to reduce their rosters after the draft. I don't think Dallas should reach for a player in the draft at NT but if one falls to us then it would a good move to draft one.

We didn't address DT? Did I miss the Draft? Did I miss the start of Training Camp?

Tank Tyler in the first, baby!

You saw McCargo go too early last year, Wade reaches for his big Jamal Williams clone (hopefully) with the 22nd pick.

I don't remember teams being forced reduce their rosters after the draft. Some do depending on who they draft and therefore may no longer need a particular player. But I thought teams could have as many on their roster until beginning of TC when they limited to around 85.

Am very concerned about lack of a backup behind Ferguson. While we could sign an older NT to short term contract just to provide this option, would really like to see us bring in a young player who could in 2-3 years succeed Ferguson.

Panthers are lucky cause they seem to have several NTs on their team with promise and thus Jenkins no longer needed--although his injury history & large contract make him a cap concern. If Cowboys interested, they better check him out physically to ensure he fit & they may do nothing until after the draft.

I'm not sure Wade necessarily wants a massive 340 pounder like Williams. Williams was in San Diego long before Phillips arrived, and during his time there, Wade brought in 2 NTs in the 305-310 range.

I'll take a beefed up 315-320 lb. Mont Stanley.

He does need someone who requires a double team off a pass rush, or can at least be counted on to get a consistent push. I've never seen Ferguson play that kind of role. Same for Stanley.

Everyone gets wood for Merriman and Foley and Phillips, and glosses over Williams. I realize Phillips' system gets after QBs, but Jamal Williams makes that defense go. He is the single-best player on that defense, by a mile.

I don't think Wade would be averse to getting that here - if it can be managed.

Don't forget Ratliff. I think he may have been BP's long term plan at NT.

If we have to start the season with Ferg, Ratliff and Stanley again its not the endof the world. If Branch is there in the first or Tyler is there in the second or Harrell is there in the third or Solai is there in the fourth then great.

We have backup needs at more than just DT. All over the OL, LB, CB, WR, QB, FB and S all need backups as well.
