One of my best friends tried to committ suicide about 15 years ago. The only thing you can do is just be there for her and offer your support. Let her know you love her, that you care about what happens to her and that you are there for her if she needs to talk or anything else. The rest is up to her. Thankfully, my friend is still here and is doing well.

Don't forget to take care of yourself, too...sleep, eat, try to get back to semi-normal schedule...it's the only way you'll be any help to anybody else. If you're struggling enough that you can't do that, make sure you find somebody to talk to in person--pastor if that's your thing, or counselor, or just good listening ear.

I'm sure all your brethren here will be sending their prayers and good thoughts toward you and your family. Hang in there.

I know somebody who did. My best friend from gradeschool got in with the wrong crowd from junior high on. He got high on drugs one night at his home and played Russian roulette and shot himself. Never made it past highschool.

I can't say that I know of anybody that unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide. Sadly I can say I knew three people who were successful.

Get good rest, as hard as that may be, don't feel guilty about getting good rest. Remember, this is not the end, it's only the begining. You will need rest and energy to think clearly.

Do not let anger rule the day. Be steady and try to be strong for everybody. You have family beyond your Sister. That may sound harsh but remember, you can't help anybody unless they are ready to be helped. Do not let this hurt the rest of your family. The only other thing I can tell you is to believe in a higher power, if that is your way. I can not get into that with you on this board but I can say that when everything seems to be moving in different directions and you don't feel like you have control, having one thing to believe can make the difference.

Life goes beyond football. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Wow I didn't see this thread. How old is she? Is she a teen? Those are the most critical years and the most emotionally sensitive ones to. Hormones, body changes, etc. She needs reassurance that she is worth something to the family and she needs to re-establish her self worth. Another thing is a break up, those can be really hard for some. Spend some quality time with her and tell her she's to pretty to give up. Say some prayers with her or just try to be more supportive in your discussions.

I'm glad everything is doing good...
And, I admit, that I have thought about it a time or two...but never did it, thank god.

Read this poem,,,

Whenever Richard Cory went down town, We people on the pavement looked at him;
He was a gentleman from sole to crown, Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed, And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said, “Good-morning,” and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king— And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light, And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head.

I had a roommate in the Army that tried to. After the last time we didn't see him any more.

I think twice. The first time was before I was his roommate. Thankfully the second time was not in our room.

My uncle tried to kill himself, about 15-16 years ago. He tried to kill himself but ended up shooting himself in his shoulder. My grandparents were on their way to his house, to check on him because they couldn't get a hold of him on the phone. When they got there they found him bleeding in his bed passed out and called the paramedics. He is fine now but it was a hard time for the family.

When I was in the Navy there was a kid stationed on the sub tender (Emory S Land) who tried to kill himself by putting a shotgun under his chin. He was upset over a girl or something was the story.

Appearantly while reaching to pull the trigger, either he or the gun moved, and he just ended up blowing off half his face.

He survived, but was seriously, seriously, seriously disfigured.
