Anybody notice how quickly Marinelli manages to evaluate DL?

First guy, Landon Cohen. Signed in July and played two games. Recorded one tackle, then was shown the door Sept 16th.

Next man up, George Selvie. Signed July 25th. Has played 6 games, 14 tackles, 3 sacks. You get to start.

Next man up, Edgar Jones. Acquired Aug 31st. Has played four games, four tackles, one assist, one pass defensed. You get to stay.

Next man up, Ceasar Rayford. Acquired Sept 3rd. Has played three games, one tackle, two assists. You get to stay (for now).

Next man up, Jerome Long. Signed Sept 7th. Played three games, no tackles. Cut Sept 24th.

Next man up, David Carter. Signed Sept 17th. Played three games, one tackle. Cut Oct 15th.

Next man up, Drake Nevis. Signed Sept 24th. Has played three games, four tackles. You get to stay.

Next man up, Jarius Wynn. Signed Oct 15th. Let's see whatcha got, bro!

Whew! I didn't even include guys who never made it through pre-season.
Marinelli does not waste time evaluating talent. You engage, you produce, or you go. Love it!

Looking at that list, one thing I noticed is that we only have three pure DT's, though perhaps Wynn can play some DT in passing situation.

Another thing, if you observe the pattern, one might infer that Wynn was signed as a possible replacement for Rayford. He could be the next to go. You heard it here first.

Rayford's probably getting some looks inside this week and Wynn/Jones are going to pick up the DE snaps.

This would surprise me. Rayford looks thin for a DE. I'd say Wynn has a much better chance at DT than Rayford.

Wasn't Rayford the one we gave up a draft pick for? Not the end of the world for a conditional but makes it a bit less likely he is released.

This is one of the main reasons we are getting way more performance than we should given who is on our roster. Knowing you can be released if you don't perform is a very powerful motivator.

Good work up. I think that it's a little easier to turn over guys that are fairly marginal to begin with, but the pace of evaluation is really impressive as you point out. Seems like a long way from the low churn, Igor Olshansky era.

I think Marinelli is a terrific coach. He reminds me of an assistant that Jimmy would have on his staff.

I also think he runs a rather simplistic system...get up the field. If you can't, you can't and you'll be cut.

There's a lot of simplicity in genius.

It's no accident that the Bears have been as successful as they were in their recent past. Marinelli had much to do with that being the case. I just can't recall another time in the Cowboys history that they have been quite this active in acquiring defensive help, training and playing them quickly. Needless to say, a certain degree of a lack of foresight in drafting d-linemen and an excessive numbers of injuries had a causal effect upon that unfortunate situation. I hope Marinelli's future with the Cowboys is long and equally comparable to his history of success.

I just hope we find a guy in this process who can stick with us a couple of seasons. The most likely candidate is Selvie, but its still a long season so we have to see how he continues to perform.

We do need one of these guys to work out to decrease our needs next offseason and also to hopefully help us be successful this season.

I think Rayford's conditional pick was based on the amount of snaps played in the first half of the season or something like that. Think we're trying to be cute with that one.

Edgar Jones was wanted for STs and it's my understanding the conditional pick for Rayford is the one that they might get for Lissemore from the Chargers.

Cowboys acquired DE Edgar Jones and a 2014 seventh-round pick from the Chiefs in exchange for a 2014 sixth-round pick.

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas, the Cowboys have sent a conditional pick in 2015 to the Colts in exchange for defensive end Caesar Rayford.

Chargers acquired DL Sean Lissemore from the Cowboys in exchange for a 2015 seventh-round draft pick.

The bodies that survive this year will get an entire off season/training camp/preseason under Marinelli. Something to be optimistic about for next year.

I just wonder if we will have as much whining in the offseason about the DL as we have had for the OL over the last year or 2......probably not.
