hit people?

For that matter, so does Henry. We have a pretty phsyical secondary. After watching the Giants game, Newman was flying around and really laying the wood on some guys. I think Roy is rubbing off on him.

This kid is really coming into his own.

And just a side note.... Henry is a very close second to Bledsoe for best free agent signing this offseason by any team! I love him!

A few times this season, I just saw the 1 on the jersey and thought it was Roy, and it was actually Newman. Our whole secondary, even Davis can lay some licks.

Here's a Glover quote about Newman from Newman's rookie season --

"He came up and stuffed the run real good, then he stood up, hollering and screaming at the top of his lungs, ‘I’m a road block! I’m a road block! You can’t run my way!’ " Glover said. "I was like, ‘Wow, I haven’t heard a cornerback come up and do that in a long time.’ "

...but BP won't let him return punts because his legs are too skinny...:
Whatever BP's excuse is I like it. We don't need to lose our best CB to some stupid punt return injury. We have backup defensive backs who can handle that duty just fine without risking one of our top players for no good reason. BP is handling this one just right (and I don't say that about BP very often).

Newman is taking away half of the field in every game. The one or two TD's he might produce would not be nearly enough to justify the risk considering the number of TD's that would likely be given up by the backup on his side if he went down.

I think Newman was always willing but now with Henry here, it's like he (TNew) wants to make every hit a big one, and that's why I say the secondary is underrated compared to others. It's not all about coverage all the time. Having two corners that are good tacklers makes the zone defense quite dangerous.

I kinda agree w/ you, why risk it...

...but,

how often do you see a KR or PR get injured? I can't think of many instances myself.

But I do agree that TNew doesn't need to be on the kamikazee squad.

Those guys get lots of "minor" injuries that don't prevent them from playing but nag them during the season.
There was a great article way back (early '80s) in a magazine I think was named Sport. Anybody else remember that publication?
Anyway, the article profiled an iggles punt returner who listed all the injuries he got returning punts during the season. It was amazing. Broken and sprained fingers, chipped teeth, lacerations, deep bruises, etc. The guy was a walking first-aid project. And he claimed he was pretty typical for the league.

Not only that, but Newmans a sure tacklers too, You never see him hit someone and they just absorb it and bounce it outside and take off again. I love this kid.
