Anyone figured out Crayton yet?

I can't tell what Parcells is upset about with him. I have listened to all the press conferences and Crayton has issues about staying focussed and consistent I guess.

But, when he plays and when ball is thrown to him, he sucks it in like a giant vacuum. He is a weapon you can throw the ball to quickly because of his size and big mitts that engulf the ball. This is important in games where Bledsoe is under big stress and needs to get ball out fast, which will be against any decent defense on a team with a coach with half a brain. Crayton can go across the middle, he can make plays in traffic, he can make some yards after the catch, doing well getting first downs historically.

He seems to be in Parcell's dog house. Maybe it's his cocky confidence. I know we have TO, Glenn, and Witten, but Crayton should be a mismatch in a number of lineups.

I'm just not sure why he disappears for games, is it coaches not playing him or throwing to him or is it his play?

Good question.

It's obvious Bill gets aggravated with him, but when they finally throw him the ball he catches it.

I suppose we would have to see the tape and understand what Crayton is supposed to do on the plays to understand what the deal is.

LarryCanadian, you hit the nail on the head, Crayton has issues about staying focused, and if he doesnt get steady pratice time, then he goes into a shell receiving.

So,; Parcells has to stay on him

Next thing you will see about Crayton, on punt returns, he easily runs out of bounds when he can and not take it upfield. Granted he doesnt have the greatest speed, he is like 4.57 in 40. Something like that.

I see it as lack of maturity and desire on Craytons part. Kinda like Parcells said, about the whole team, with all the young players like Ware, Spears, Ratliff, Colombo-only because he hasnt played alot of football due to injury), Burnett, Canty, Fasano, Crayton, Watkins, Barber, Carpenter, Hatcher, McQuistan-due to hardly playing only 1.5 years of college ball, Gurode just coming on now, James just coming on, and our punter.

I think that if you look at this past sunday's game, you can why the coach's get frustrated with him. The 3rd and 2 play comes to mind, he ran the route to close to the sideline and couldn't get seperation to come back for the ball.. on 4th and 2, they ran the same play, he ran the route better and made the play.. a lack of focus made it a 4th down play instead of a 3rd down play. Its little things that seperate contenders from pretenders in this league.

i would think bill is trying to get him to do the little things like run the route the corrct way as said above.he is never gonna be much of a punt retrner, he just does'nt have the ability and i don't think you can teach punt returning. you can teach some aspects but mostly you just have to have the mindset to attack

He ran the same route on those plays, the difference was where bledsoe put the ball. He put it wayy too low and not far enough behind Crayton for him to make a play on it. The difference was the throws, not the route.

He's not a finished product yet.

But often times, when Parcells says he's not satisfied with a player, it's a good sign. Parcells thinks Crayton can develop into something even better.

Nope, not the throw.. not this time anyway. Watch the route closely,, you will see that on the first play,, All Clayton could do was basically turn around, because he was to close to the sideline,, on the second one,, when he turns around,, he can fade back towards the sideline,, creating seperation and making the catch,, the ball was in about the same spot both throws.. like I said, its not a HUGE thing, but its little things like that , that seperates players.

I think it probably says a lot that Crayton is Glenn's backup instead of TO's or Key's(when he was here).
With Glenn's propensity for missing at least a few games nearly every season, except for last season, having a guy like Crayton behind could him be a huge factor for this team.
I love Crayton's game. Fiery attitude, big strong hands, and a knack for making clutch plays.
How many guys has Parcells, or Bledsoe, had that they would run the same play to twice, the second time being on 4th down? Not many would be my guess.

Your wrong, the reason they ran the play twice was because it worked the first time but the throw happened to hit the db(who wasn't even looking).

Who cares.....

Hes 27 or 28 and his ceiling is NOT that high... Too old to be a factor for the next 5 years and doesnt have/ever had speed like T.O. or Terry.

Draft a stud WR next year and Develop him. Crayton is no more than a 3rd wide receiver in a 2 receiver offense. Great Hands but so did Keyshawn. Crayton is no more than a shorter Keyshawn without the mouth but with the 4.65 speed..

the first time they ran the play the ball was low....but i beleive crayton was up in the air??? if the throw is low or at his gut, why is he jumping so that it looks like its at his knee level. That is how it looked to me, so regardless of whether the dback got a hand in there, crayton was not in position to make aggresive play for the ball.

Clayton was a quarterback. Quarterbacks run out of bounds rather than get hit. And they are not used to running routes. It takes awhile. Three years?

Crayton should be in the slot everytime we play a good pass rushing/blitzing team. You can snap the ball and throw it to his back shoulder in single coverage on a hot route and I bet good money that he will make the grab 70% of the time or more. We don't use him appropriately.

I disagree that Crayton lacks desire. He fights hard for extra yardage, usually to the point that I'm afraid he puts the ball at risk too often.

I think Parcells is hard on him because he likes him and expects more out of him... that's just the Tuna's style.

I guess he sits due to the 2 TE set. But i agree, he should be the hot read on 3rd down for several reasons. He has great hands, he has the body to box others out to make the underneath catch, he has a knack for getting the extra yard which is what you want in 3rd down situations. How many #3 dbacks can stay with him.
