Anyone have an opinion of Baylor QB Seth Russell?

I've been thinking about whether or not it makes sense to look for another QB option, despite hitting the jackpot on Dak Prescott. While Kellen Moore may be the current backup, he will always be limited and I don't think it would be a bad idea to have another younger option with upside.

If the opportunity presented itself, I wouldn't be opposed to using a late round pick on a player like Russell. I think he'd be much higher-rated if not for his injuries, which I don't feel are chronic. I think if his medicals checked out, I'd draft him.

I also saw that he was one of the Dallas Day visits.

Inaccurate, injured and played in a system that didn't have a real playbook. Tough kid, but I'd pass.

He's considered by some to be a possible 6th to 7th round pick. He's well built at 6-3 and 220 with a strong arm. He'll be a project at the pro level but that's to be expected from someone picked that late. He's able to make plays with his legs but tends to be a one-read guy that had a tendency to turn the ball over by forcing throws from that one read. He has decent possibilities for someone likely to be taken that late, imho. He's considered something like Bryce Petty was, with a steep learning curve at the NFL level.

He looks like he would be an okay camp arm type, the type we would have as our third QB for years and years.

If we could get someone like Davis Webb as a backup in the 4th/5th round, I'm thinking he might possibly make a decent backup QB for many years. He's likely to require some extended seasoning, though. Good size at 6-4 and 230 with good arm strength and accuracy.

Davis Webb is being talked about as a guy who could get drafted in the late 1st/early 2nd. 4th/5th is out of the question (especially since we don't have a 5th).

When a 4/5th round pick is mentioned, it is generally considered to be a late 4th. The team to draft one rated there will usually take him sooner, rather than later. I seriously doubt he'll be a 1st or 2nd rounder. Maybe a 3rd but it remains to be seen. He's a bit raw at this juncture. Athlon and some other publications have him rated as a mid to late pick. He's said to be climbing, so we'll see where he winds up. It's surely not unusual for QBs to be taken considerably earlier than expected, though.

I'd definitely label him as a developmental guy, but I think given the fact that we have Prescott, we have a bit of the luxury to develop a young guy as a potential backup. I like Russell's tools and was thinking that this staff could possibly develop them.

I'm thinking that if wasn't injured, he'd likely be a 3rd round pick in this draft.

He's was hit with injuries for two years, so that would, of course, enter into the picture as to his perceived value. It wouldn't require an expensive pick to find out what he has to offer, which is possibly what Dallas might find somewhat attractive. He'd be a project but one that might be worth exploring the possibilities of for a team that isn't inclined to get overly invested financially in a QB.
