I was always a fan Terrance Newman when he played for Dallas. I was sad to see him go. Anybody else regret us letting him go? He seems to be doing decent in Cinci and is having a great preseason so far.

Let the lashing begin.......

No, because he's much older now, but at the time I thought it was a mistake.

Newman missed 2 games during his last 3 years in Dallas. He has missed 3 games during his 2 years in Cincy. I imagine that would not have gone over well had he stayed. Same with him only have 4 interceptions over the last 2 seasons. I bet a lot of people would be disappointed with so few interceptions. He had 4 his last year in Dallas and some didn't think that was enough.

I remember when Newman was drafted by the Cowboys, there was a poster who wanted Suggs and bitterly complained about it. I personally never had anything against Newman, but the Cowboys should have definitely drafted Suggs.

To that poster that who wanted Suggs over Newman, (you know who you are) you were totally correct!!

I never told him, but if he is reading this I apologize.

Who was the poster?

I posted it in the Cincy game thread. Looked at game books on NFL.com.

He hasn't been on the DNP list in the preseason for Cincy since he (hmmm) got there. He's played in every game thus far, including every finale.

In his last 3 years in Dallas he was DNP a total of 7 times. Missed all of 2011, and didn't play in a single preseason finale over that span.

His targets are about the same for the span of 2010 to 2011 and 2012 to 2013.

His numbers are better in almost every area (can't think of one that's wasn't other than INTs) for his time in Cincy.

Better completion %, lower YPA, lower YPC, fewer TDs, fewer yards, fewer YAC.

Its no secret the Cowboys are in the business of promoting entertainment which encourages players to make business decisions vs Cincy and other NFL teams that do not enjoy the entertainment factor and is focused on playing football.......

Cowboy players are just following the business culture that the Owner/GM promotes

Tnew was getting lazy and was injured all the time. You don't recall the 1000 groin injuries? I regret letting Mike Jenkins walk at least he played more than MO and put up better stats. Could have saved our 1st and 3rd rounders.

Who was the poster?

I honestly don't remember his name it started with an 's' I believe, but he got banned for some reason, I don't remember why either.

HA, it was a long time ago in internet years.

Yeah, it was a while ago.

Just sounded like things got heated. I mean, apologizing 11 years later?

I barely remember what happened on the board last month.

I never argued with the poster or anything, however; other people were very angry at him. I just never said anything and I always wish I did, that's all.

Why do you think he had those DNPs here and not there? Why was he so nicked up here he either didn't play or if he played he was injured enough to not play well?

I dunno, but when you see a situation where his replacement has only played in 2 or so preseason games it kinda makes you wonder if the team isn't overly cautious to a fault.

They're so concerned with guys either getting hurt or aggravating some injury that has popped up that they hold guys out.

I think the result is guys entering the season fully prepared. Would it surprise anyone if Morris or Melton started the season slow?

This is a good example, .. Ware is another.

Good players become better with more good players around them. Especially on defense. It's hard to do it alone.

In this case, it was hard for Newman to be a good DB with a weak pass rush/front 7.

The pass rush pulled 42 sacks in 2011 which is one shy of what Cincy did last year at 43. 2011 sack rate for Dallas was better than Cincy's 7.7 to 7.0.

I think some has to do with that. But in season injuries are just as common if not more so. CBs get hurt more so by tackling than twisting an ankle or knee covering IMO. Maybe it has something to do with the latter.
