Dak will easily get $38 - $40 per year now at a minimum thanks to Mahomes' new 10 year/$503 million with $477 million in guarantees/$45 mil/year average new contract extension.

You "don't pay Dak" Daktractors are foolish for having pushed the tag and much lesser pay which Jerry obviously listened to. Who is laughing now? Not you. It's Dak because he now knows he is worth at a minimum around $40 mil/season which Jerry will have no choice but to pay Dak since the alternative will lead to years of average play + rebuilding for years to come + playing musical chairs at the QB position.

I like Prescott but he's done nothing to warrant getting 40 mil a year. He and the Cowboys won a single playoff game, haven't sniffed the Super Bowl. Yes market values go up every year but that does not justify making Prescott the 2nd highest paid player in the NFL. If the Cowboys were the current Super Bowl champions then 40 mil a year might be warranted, but not for a single playoff game win QB.

Players don't get paid the same just because they play the same position as someone else.
I don’t think he’s saying Dak’s value is now at the level of Mahome’s contract or that all players at the same position get paid the same, I think he’s just saying that the general pay scale for QBs went up.

Why do people talk about $40 million/year with Dak? Outside the report Dak wants a premium for one season if he were to agree to a 5th year I haven’t seen any evidence Dak has been asking for that much.

I still believe you play him on the tag and if he plays like Mahomes, you pay him like Mahomes. Dak hasn't had one year as good as 2018 or 2019 by Mahomes, and came his closest as a rookie. See if he can elevate himself to that level and pay him accordingly.

And I'm not saying that to be critical of Prescott. I just would like to see what he can do under a real coach before figuring out if he's closer to Wentz/Goff level or Wilson/Mahomes level.

And before anyone says he's already on Wilson/Mahomes level, Wilson had a 106.3 rating last year and 110.9 the year before and Mahomes had 105.3 and 113.8. Dak's last two years were 99.7 and 96.9. His best is 104.9.
Had our WRs caught half of their league-leading 46 dropped passes last season, Dak's passer rating would easily have been above 105, easily surpassed 5k yards passing and he and the team would easily have been in the playoffs.

Yeah, Dak is a 1 playoff win out of 3 playoff games QB because of...???

If you don't know the answer to that question, you simply have not been paying attention.

Dak deserves big pay.

Y'all don't understand basic economics....THE MARKET justifies Prescott being paid like a top QB. It's just how it is, none of us have to like it but its honestly got nothing to do with us except we care about this football club. All the bickering and back n forth on this forums hasn't and won't change a single thing about what happens to Dak.

Do you ever see the other side.

Dallas is in the driver's seat. They have Prescott for 31 million this year and 37 million in 2021 with no contract binding them. Why should Dallas pay 80 million in the next two years and more in guarantees when they can pay 68 million with no binding contract locking them in and still have the player. The tag is Dallas's friend in these escalating QB market.

Under this scenario Dallas actually has 2 years to find another solution if they choose to move on from Prescott.

If Dallas doesn't win in the next two years, Prescott will be gone ala Cousins. Book it.

This is how the team should play it.

Assuming the deal was for 30m per season, he turned that down to make 2m, so he is 28m in the hole, that is lost money that can never be recovered, so ya imp he made a mistake
How are y'all coming up with this math? He was not going to make 30 million last year lol.

All they get is a 3rd round comp and they are now in the QB carousel where you spend years hoping to get lucky. Hopefully you win that 1/3 but in reality you might as well blow up the team at that point because it is unlikely that you drafted a winner so you might as well stockpile money and young talent and do a full rebuild.

why would the Cowboys have to pay $80 million the next 2 years if they sign Dak? Some people talk as if Dak is demanding that, but what evidence is there?

Mahomes is actually an exception because of COVID.

This deal will change a lot for the sport, the Chiefs, and other quarterbacks. It goes against the rest of the NFL offseason: According to Sports Illustrated, only three players got extensions with their current teams after the COVID lockdown started in March, and two more got deals with new teams after they were traded. Teams, fearful of 2021 salary cap problems due to revenue shortfalls if games are played without fans, have mostly stopped signing extensions. As with most things, Mahomes was the exception: This is a man who erases double-digit leads in the playoffs and makes it look easy. Now he signs the biggest contract in NFL history in the face of a global pandemic when all NFL teams are nervous about their long-term cap situation.
