Anyone think Vandy's problems today was simply nerves about the opponent?

I hear and read all this talk about cutting him immediately and so forth; no one seems to be even considering that he might have simply been a bit psyched out about facing the Colts. I say the guy will be fine for the rest of the season, and miss one or two more kicks at the most, as crazy as that sounds tonight.

Given the sacrifice the team is making by accepting his short kickoffs, I think he misses too often to offset the short kickoffs AND the missed FGs. Ofcourse the question is is there anyone out there whowe could bring in to fix the problem, unfortunately I think we have to get through this year with him.

I think that's the whole point that people are worried about...that he gets psyched out when the pressure rises. End result=missed FG, opponent ball w/good field position.

I don't think MV's problems end here. It's been an ongoing thing. He's missing everything right, it seems. I know this: He is unrivaled when it comes to hitting uprights.

We are in a unique position. Dallas has shown it's able to bench a starting quarterback. There are options at running back. Some depth in the defensive line and the secondary. But it seems we are stuck with Vanderjagt - this season anyway.

He can continue to miss and kickoff short, but there really isn't much this team can do right now except send him back out, hoping he finds his swing.

There probably were some nerves but his miss was the same as usual, wide right. He kicks the ball too straight when it is on a hashmark so he hits the post.

I am worried because none of his kicks look good...they have not all year long. They all push off to the right and he has hit way too many uprights this year.

I have no more confidence in him that I did in Cundiff and others.

...telling is the same problem occurs on his PATs also. It's a mechanical thing in my opinion.

If they are stuck with him, then I would begin making sure ALL 3rd down plays are to the left side of the field,,, this guy probably has nightmares about kicking from the right hash mark! From now on make sure he kicks from the left.

That's the problem. If he's "psyched out" about facing the Colts, how will he handle a pressure kick in a playoff game? The Super Bowl? How about the Super Bowl vs. the Colts?

...his target would be the left goal post and we would all pray that it didn't drift too far right and outside the uprights.

Adjusting the hash mark location is not the cure for this problem although it would seem logical with Vandy.:

Vandejerk is a headcase, I don't care. This bares repeating but for the life of me I can't understand why the Cowboys didn't sign Adam V. he clearly wanted to come here....

:bang2:

P.S. Don't tell me Vandejerk's new name will be "Wide Right"....Some where at FSU Bobby Bowden is screaming....LMAOOO

No. He is simply... bad. :bang2:

Forget his historical stats... all that matters for us in the present.

Vanderjak says his timing is off... That he's getting to the ball a little too early and he's having to force it...He said usually he can correct that so that it almost never happens twice in row - except for today.

Still, just watching him, you can't help but think it's mostly in his head. Maybe he can figure it out or a get a little confidence going.

...if its the case. He just needs to adjust his internal cadence/timing. Some guys have sayings, some use an internal rhythm, I knew some guys who counted in their head like beats to song.

Whatever it was they made it mechanical and repetitive. In Vandy's case he been off timing for much of this year because wide right has been a problem for him.

So what excuses are we going to make for him if we meet up with Indy again in the Super Bowl?

"Nerves" is just another word for Pressure.

Vandy couldn't handle the pressure today.

well, I believe I read in an article posted on this forum that Dungy would get the ball on the left hash mark for Vandy if he could,,, the guy has always had that preference...
