Anyone worried about stopping the run?

in our defense. Basically the same guys but the 4-3 defense seem to have trouble stopping the run the the 3-4 (smaller players in 4-3 and alignment I guess). Seems like we are a injury away on defense to being sorry again especially at defensive line. God forbid if ware get lost for the season or early in the season. I hope someone can step up or we look in FA for another guy that can rush.

I read somewere that we have $5 million in FA money as of right now. Heck I would even think about cutting our FB and signing a cheaper option because he pretty much sucked last year. And we can save by cutting him.

It's hard to defend anything in the NFL with how the rules are.

I think we have a talented enough defense to do about as well as you can do in this league at this time.

What we need to do to help this defense is get a jump on teams with our offense and make defenses throw down field on us and not let them rely on dinking and dunking and running the ball.

I believe we only had a lead on our opponents for 23% of the time last year because we were so abysmal offensively in the 1st half.

We need to take the Garrett part out of the offense and make the street ball / up tempo Romo side of our offense more apart of it.

Not worried about stopping the run relative to personnel and scheme. I believe the 4-3 system will work for our talent and there is some talent. There's been focus on the absence of a 1-technique but I think it's a bit unrealistic to parse out such specific nuanced skills in a player for the 1 and the 3 technique. These are big, quicker gap killing athletes for both and we seem to have several of those players.

I do worry about being physical enough. I think the issue lies in our mentality and aggression and not in personnel. Ware and Lee are playmakers and wonderful Cowboys but they don't set the pace. We need a couple of those. A Lance Briggs type (from a few years ago), James Harrison or Ryan Clark are examples. These guys aren't the best on their team but they seem to be keys to their respective defenses. We could have one in Wilcox if he develops and in Carter as well if he stays healthy.

definitely worried.

I dont know much about football but I just have a hard time believing a scheme switch will fix it all.

Now getting tired and running out of depth could cause some struggles in the run game but our starting front 7 should do a nice job against the run.

I would say health & having an offense that didn't score early contributed more to our defensive troubles last year than the scheme.

Someone needs to run the numbers for our run D when Sean Lee has been in the game, over the last 2 years.

I am not worried as long as Lee is playing is what I'm saying.

This system is built on those "smaller" linemen getting penetration to mess up the run and pressure the passer, and having quick linebackers who can adjust from pass to run quickly. We have those things. We also have at least one run-busting safety in Church.

The only concern runwise is the corners. Because the ends are trying to get upfield and attack, the corners have to be good at sealing the outside. Not sure how good our starters are at that.

Carr is good. Claiborne? Let's just say he is more of a cover guy.

obviously if ware went down for the season it would not only hurt the run d but the pass d. no way to have a guy as good as ware setting on the bench. as for a stopping the run mostly thats gonna come from a healthy group of lb's
we did struggle some last year but carter has lots of reps under his belt and lee hopefully will be healthy. thats much more imprtant than the dline in run defense.

3 LBs meaning more speed and church helps in running game .Spencer as OLB was very understanding and stopping run. Only issue could be an opposing agile OL can let the Linemen penetrate and get in the 2nd level and block the smaller LBs and open a big run or two.

But Lee, Carter and Durant all have good recognition and nose for the ball.

Let's see how it all come down , give 3 games.

I thought one of the knocks on Carr coming over was that he wasn't very good at playing the run.

And having to defend a short field due to a bunch of turnovers.
The only concern I have is O-line and limiting turnovers...

NFL running games aren't really scary anymore. 9 out of 10 it's the passing game that kills.

I think our DL will be our weak link, LB'ers, Corners and safety' s I think we will be fine. I see DL being a concern all season, we just do not have enough good bodies to rotate in with the starting 4.

I really couldn't care less about stopping the run. We just need to not suck in pass defense.

Not with Sean Lee and Bruce Carter roaming the field.

i wouldnt be impressed with that til they do a full season together, so far its been two ferraris in a garage. im hoping they do it, but it seems when something goes rolling our way, injuries pop up.

Ware, Spencer, Hatch, Rat, Lissemore, Crawford, Price..

How many do you think we need on the DL?
