AOA with a pick...

I was looking for him, and didn't see much. He made a great play blowing up a screen while stupid Tony Dungy was talking about whatever he was talking about while I had him muted. On STs, I thought he looked pretty pedestrian on his returns, which is how he's always looked.

I thought it was notable that other safeties were being brought on blitzes when playing with the ones and twos, but not AOA that I noticed. I'd like to see more of him in coverage to see how he develops this year. I still think he's in danger of losing his spot after just two season. I think we like our other young safeties.

After just one season you mean. We drafted him last year. This is his second season and first full off-season.

The first kickoff was 8 yards deep and he took a step forward before thinking better of it and taking a knee.
I'm not sure that's the one I'm talking about. The first two weren't in the air very long and the second one I thought was about 4-5 yards deep. Anyway it's preseason, they need to return anything that isn't flat out in the back of the endzone just to look at the return teams. I've even seen in the past, Alexander Wright return some from the back of the endzone that went all the way. It's more important if the blocking is set up.

You realize that the other young safeties that you think we like not named Church barely played at all right?

No, I didn't realize that. And, of course, Church is one of the young safeties that I think we like.

Actually, yes. After one season.

I just think that is way to soon to give up on a guy you drafted knowing he'd take some time.

He is far superior to the rest athletically, he can play special teams, and can play CB/FS. That all adds up to at least one more year on the roster.

There is no way we keep someone like Sandejo over him. IMO at least.

You might be right. I think we'll keep play makers. Church passed him already. I don't know that another safety will, they'd have to really show something in the last two games, but it's not unthinkable.

I agree Church is safe.

I think we keep 5 Safeties.

Sens/Elam/Church/McCray/A.O.A.

Pretty sure we have an extra roster spot this year anyways. So we just need to keep 1 kicker, and that gives us flexibility.

He is a bust that hasn't shown anything, we should cut him immediately. I could care less if this is his second year because that is how I roll.

Edit: Cool sig Everlastingxxx.

I like the way you roll, man. :D

Teams make mistakes all the time. You should know the Cowboys have made a ton recently with the majority of its 2009 draft class.

We don't know what these coaches are seeing at practice, in the film room and in one-on-one instruction with the players. We just think "hey, we're giving up on player X too soon."

The best way to remedy a problem is to cut bait. You only compound a problem when you hang onto a player for the simple fact you invested a draft pick in him. If you do so, you're likely keeping a player that can help you off the roster.

Also, you said AOA can "play CB/FS." He hasn't proven he can play either one of those positions. Technically, Alan Ball can play FS too.

I don't know what's to become of AOA. I'm rooting for the kid if even for the simple fact I would hate to see that we blown another draft pick.

I understand all of that, but due to him being hurt last year, I think you have to give him an actual shot this year. If he does nothing, move on.
This is his second season, and first full off-season. It's not like this is year 3 or 4.
But I'd give him this year for sure. See what happens. If no improvement cut your losses and move on.

I found it interesting that during the game one of the commentators said that Church would start over Elam. Not sure about that but he does look good. I can see why they didn't spend big money to get a safety.

Elam has been the one constant in the secondary through 2 preseason games. I love what I've seen from him, especially up in the box.
