I was thinking about the history of royalty, of all things. I remembered an old phrase that often comes up when discussing the role and "duty" of a queen. It was her duty to produce male offspring, specifically an heir.....and a spare.
She satisfied her duty when she gave birth to two sons because it kept the royal family strong by almost insuring that the king would be succeeded by his son. Laugh, but many queens lost their lives for failing this duty.
But they were always mindful of the mortality rate of the times they lived in. Probability at many points in history predicted only one of the male offspring would live to adulthood.
The connection?
What if Zeke goes down in the preseason?
I am not superstitious, So I don't feel any sense of dread for saying it. What I am is a fan that understands the law of probability and the possibilities that exist.
So, now what? McFadden? Mr Durable?
Obviously, Peterson isn't exactly unbreakable but look at the potential behind the line.
Look at the waste of having three of the league's top battering rams in the Cowboy offensive line if there is no one to capitalize on it with devastating results to an opponent.
If the Cowboys can make it happen they should but not at that price. They dont have to.
Peterson is transparent and his agent is probably having a nervous breakdown.
It is obvious that his goal should be a championship at this point in his career. If it isn't and it turns out to be money then he will probably play the waiting game and see who goes down in the preseason.
That is when his salary demands become the range he mentioned. Unfortunately, at this point, the Cowboys would not be interested, it does not for their long term strategy.
