CINCINNATI (AP) -- Bengals president Mike Brown, one of two NFL owners to vote against the new labor agreement, thinks the deal is bad for his small-market team.

The Bengals and Buffalo Bills were the only teams to oppose the deal approved Wednesday. Buffalo's Ralph Wilson said owners weren't given enough time to understand the deal.

Brown agreed, but said Thursday that he voted against it for another reason.
"Economically, this is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, (but) it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs," Brown said. "We didn't feel it was in the best interest of our team financially. That's why I voted against it.

"That is not to say that this is a bad deal for the NFL overall or for the fans."
The agreement will add close to a billion dollars to the players' revenue pool, and guarantee labor peace for six years. If the sides failed to come to an agreement, the 2007 season would have been played without a salary cap, and there was a possibility of a work stoppage in 2008.

Brown wanted to negotiate more.

"I would have preferred at this time no deal," Brown said. "That doesn't mean we wouldn't have continued on. We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future."

Instead of complaining about the new extension, Mike Brown needs to get off his *** and close a few marketing deals while the iron's hot.

If anyone has a right to complain about the new CBA agreement, it's Jerry.

Mike Brown is the main reason his teams have sucked for so long. The only reason they're doing OK lately is that they had so many high draft choices that even I could field a winning team just drafting per Kiper's board.

They've gotten better because Katie Blackburn has taken a more pronounced role.

The Bengals are in one of the smaller markets but they've done a terrible job marketing the team to Columbus and Louisville, both sizable markets without NFL teams with the Bengals as there nearest team geographically.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that he suckered cincy into getting him a new stadium and then they seen that he was going to keep up with his cheap ways and there was a lawsuit that was against him because they, some fans, felt he was not trying to actually put together a winning team due to him being cheap.

Luckily someone under him hired a good coach and has that team respectable.

I have no memory if it was true or not but I seem to remember him being in the same room with marvin lewis the first time and he did not even know who lewis was at the time.

I live in WV it is about the same amount of time to travel to Cincy, Cleveland or Pittsburg give or take a little.

Even in such a small area that I live the Steelers in the past have had fan events in my county (softball charity game with some of the lesser known steelers)...neither Cleveland or Cincy has done any advertising or any other thing to market their teams.

Funny thing is Pittsburgh already has a BIG fan base in our area so they are the last ones who need to do anything but they still do.

That is the difference between a franchise that is looking at the future and working towards it and one that doesn't. The Bengals are good NOW- but for how long?

Pittsburgh does very well on a tight budget with those little functions. Doesn't sound like much but even a backup TE at a grocery store or a special teamer at the elementery school makes the local smalltown papers.

I seem to remember a donkey basketball game with a few of their scrubs at my grandparents in my youth.
