Afternoon practice observations
• Players were in shorts in the afternoon workouts but in shoulder pads. They still have worked in shells just once during training camp. Defensive end Chris Canty, however, was the only player to don full pads.

• Linebacker Ryan Fowler returned to practice after missing Monday's workout with a groin strain.

• Quarterback Matt Baker and running back Marion Barber collided on a handoff during team period that had Parcells singling out Barber for the error.

• Wide receiver Jamaica Rector was added to the punt returners Tuesday with Skyler Green and Terence Newman.

• Parcells to Matt Baker during practice after taking too long to get to the line of scrimmage: "Come on, Matt, we're not walking on the boardwalk here. Let's go."

• As Terrell Owens worked out on the side again, Patrick Crayton was his quarterback. Crayton played quarterback in college and seemed to hit Owens pretty good coming out of his breaks.

• After taking too long to throw the ball, Drew Bledsoe had a deep throw intercepted by Roy Williams, prompting a talking to by Parcells, who said it was a double mistake by waiting on the throw and throwing into traffic.

• Tony Romo had the best throw of the workout during seven-on-seven drills when he rolled to the right, pump faked and hit Terrance Copper down the field over Quincy Butler.

• Kevin Burnett is turning into one of Parcells' projects. He's continuously talking to him about his pass-rush moves and in the afternoon workout he had him focusing on his coverage.

After seeing this, it really makes you miss the work that Grizz does.

I think Burnett is going to be a very good player.

Parcells wouldn't be wasting his time giving him this much attention if he didn't see potential.

Burnett was my favorite pick of that draft.

AND...thanks for the thread.

I just meant that i took the hard work he did for granted, and now the jokers that write for the DMN call 5 bullet points about practice a practice report. It gives you more appreciation for the excellent job he did while he was at camp.

It just gives me hope for a few wicked reverse passes to TO this season. By far my favorite jap play.

lol, there's a term I'll bet we don't hear out of Parcells this year... and I second that sentiment,,, I hope we DO see that this year..

I know it doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of running routes, but Crayton must be feeling pretty good if he's throwing on the side. Even playing catch requires you to plant and transfer weight, which would be painful if the sprain were severe. I feared him being in a cast or at least a walking boot after his injury.

Definitely hope we see that this year. If you think about it, Crayton could fill an almost Randle El-like role for those 'jap plays'. Only thing is, Patrick isn't as quick as him, but from what I understand he throws a pretty nice ball. Should be interesting.

Sorry. My mistake.

And yes, Grizz turned out some great stuff.

I miss my own reports, too, because it means I'm not at practice anymore!:tantrum:

At least Crayton is getting his timing down with TO.

Maybe a clue that Rector will make the team?

that's the first thing i thought of too - Parcells sees something there. I'm not overawed by Burnett, but i am starting to think that LB, one of our weakest areas in recent years, is right up there with the DL and secondary. With Ellis making a good transition, Carpenter, Ware, James, etc are bringing quality to every tier of our defense. There will be no weak links...
We might not have to score more points to win more games this year, even though i think its safe to say we will. Can't wait!!!!!!!

I agree. It looks like he is ready to get last year behind him and really make a statement this year. This could be the strongest group of LB's the Cowboys have EVER had.
