The should have stuck Cassel in when the game was lost to give him some reps.

The Cowboys defense had problems because of the Cowboys offense:
Punt, 3 plays, 2 yards, 1:02
Punt, 3 plays, -2 yards, 2:15
Field Goal, 10 plays, 47 yards, 6:33
Punt, 3 plays, 9 yards, 1:30
Punt, 3 plays, 5 yards, 2:42
Punt, 3 plays, 5 yards, 1:39
Punt, 3 plays, -1 yard, 0:19
End of Half, 1 play, -1 yard, 0:03
Field Goal, 15 plays, 75 yards, 8:31
Interception, 7 plays, 28 yards, 3:22
Turnover on Downs, 13 plays, 74 yards, 3:21

Both are at fault. Defense has been lousy stopping 3rd down conversions, we do not get turnovers. vs Alt we could not stop the run game to save our lives as Freeman went off for 141. It was unfortunate that key injuries were on offense and defense because from what I have seen over the years is when a starting QB is down the offense does rely on the defense much more because things are not going to run smooth and getting points becomes much harder. I would say out of all the injuries the hardest one to overcome not just in Dallas but across the NFL is QB

Yes, both have been at fault; however, no defense is going to hold up against the Patriots with this type of offensive performance.

The defense had the most issues in the Falcons game but there were very short handed with Mincey out and having just lost T. McClain. They even tried the LB Wilson (6', 240) at DE on some snaps in that game.

I agree I think even with Romo and Dez that Pats game was going to be very difficult. Again I don't remove fault for the offense but without the starting QB most offenses will struggle they will lean more on defense they try to avoid the big turnovers and I agree vs top teams you will not win playing that way vs teams like Atl and NO we should have.

in the Atlanta game they collapsed. in NO game they collapsed. in the NE game they collapsed. all in the 2nd half. a dominant defense is a dominant defense, is a dominant defense. we have been a dominant defense for the first two quarters only. unfortunately the games are 4 quarters.

That's patently false.

Not even close to being true other than you always want pressure if you can get it.

YR

Just seems to me the more time you give a QB against man coverage, the more likely the receiver will get open. WR's should get free of a DB eventually if they are worth a damn. In a zone, you play the ball and not the receiver, so in theory, doesn't matter how much time a QB has, the defense should be able to stop the pass if everyone does his job.

That is just what it seems to me. I could very well be wrong.

Against NO and Atl, the defense was the main problem, which shouldn't be surprising given who they were missing in the front seven. Against NE, the offense was the problem; you can't give the patriots that many possessions.

You know I certainly agreed with this sentiment at the time, but as I've put more thought into it I like how they've used the bye and the QB change to try to shift their internal momentum. Cassel goes out there and plays ok in a loss to the Patriots and we're in a spot where maybe the whole team is thinking about next year. At least now there's some hope that he can come in and right the ship and alongside an increasingly healthy defense and some other offensive changes string together a couple of wins.

some people really do not understand football.

Against NE the D gave up what 13 second half points all in the 4th quarter after wearing down and you say they collapsed.

We'll play more zone against NY. With our improved pass rush, we'll bracket OBJ and play zone to take away the underneath stuff. Just like the Eagles did.

We wanted to man up on NE because of the size of their receivers and how fast Brady gets the ball out. Our pass rush with Hardy/Gregory is better than Philly. We'll see a lot of zone, and a lot of turnovers.

I predict 3 turnovers against the Giants. Lee will have 1.

Anyone who watched that Patriots game and thought the Cowboys didn't have a tremendous defensive effort..... don't really know what to say to them other than keep watching football.

they gave up 17. the first two TDs were 80 yard TD drives and the gave was pretty much wrapped up and NE played conservatively.

against Atlanta? 17 in the first half. 21 in the second.

against NO, 21 in the second half and first play of over time.

we have played well in the first half of games, but for some reason haven't played well in the second half, specially in the 4th quarter and crunch time. against NO, we gave up an easy TD, and with 30 second left, they marched down and tried a FG, which they luckily missed. followed by an easy 80 yard TD pass in over time.

so do we want to say its because we had people missing. injuries. etc. and come up with a list of excuses for defenses, yet the same doesn't get applied to offense. my point. it goes both ways. and we can't exclude lack of play from the defense. we allow 42% 3rd down conversion rate. that's horrible. that allows teams to continue their drives. the defenses job is to get off the field. they haven't shown they can do that consistently.

In the first half, they were very good. But without offensive support, the second half was not all that special. They will need to put a whole game together, like they did at Philadelphia.

Bringing back Gregory, plus Hardy will help a lot. They really need the secondary, namely the safeties to do their jobs. This will be really important if the Giants do what they did not stick with against the Eagles, which was feature their tight ends.

Eagles mixed it up a lot in coverage.

.
Its so nice for some fans on here, such as yourself, to admit they do not understand football. That's what's great about the zone. You can pickup a lot of useful info on here, the nuances of the game, the X's and O's, player development, etc.... Bravo to you sir, and keep learning!

You're sitting here wondering why our defense has poor performances in the second half of games, and everyone is trying to give you the answer. You don't like the answer, so you keep rambling on and on.

This confuses me. The defense sucks in the second half because of being TIRED. Not some voodoo "anti-clutch" magic. These are human beings, not robots. I don't care how in shape or conditioned someone is; at a certain point, their body cannot continue playing with such relentless vigor.

Part of it is getting themselves off the field. I would love to see the offense moving up and down the field fact is that is unlikely to happen as long as Romo is out of the lineup. There have been seasons where the offense has had to pick up the slack for the defense and until Romo returns we need more out of that defense.

Well yes. You can only give the Pats so many opportunities and suffer do many 3 and outs.

The fact we weren't down 29 plus in the first half is a minor miracle.

everyone is giving an answer that's short sited. I am not rambling on, but stating facts which tends to get people with an agenda all twisted.

you say they are tired!!!? then why when in the games we have lost they have had the better TOP in the first half of every game!!! why are they tired?

the sole focus of most has been the offensive ineptitude, yet making excuses for the defense...so is the expectations for this team the offense needs to carry the team...the defense is just the decoration on the cake!!

. too much time on the field. they are tired. etc. well that's bull crap. fact is that all these other teams that struggle offensively seem to be doing well defensively. what gives? and the facts are they shouldn't be tired. in the NE game dallas had almost 34 minutes TOP? is that not enough. in the Atlanta game, we had almost a 2-1 ratio of Top in the first half. so they made one stop and proceeded to give up score after score!!! so what's the excuse then? tired... why? it took Atlanta 3 minutes to score......then dallas had the ball for over 4 minutes...another possessin another TD......

against NO the TOP was even!!!! why are they tired? second half....NO first drive a field goal. second possession was a TD....3rd possession was a TD. in between dallas didn't have a 3 and out!!!

why is this defense tired? what's their excuse? why is it that all these other teams can have their defenses play at a high level with crappy offenses and we have people hear saying they are tired and offense isn't controlling the clock....then if that's the exuse this defense, this scheme, these players suck. there needs to be changes.

tenn. tampa, Washington, Chicago, Denver all have worse offense than the cowboys....yet their defenses produce....they get turnovers.... they get off the field? shouldn't they be tired too?
