IRVING, Texas -- The second full day of free agency starts today. Maybe today is the day the Dallas Cowboys make a deal in free agency, and we’re not talking about DeMarco Murray.

But if there is an upside to what has happened to the Cowboys so far in free agency, it is what could happen in 2016. By losing Justin Durant, Jermey Parnell, Dwayne Harris and Bruce Carter in free agency, the Cowboys stand to earn four or five compensatory picks next year.

It will be contingent on how many free agents they sign and for how much money, but there isn’t a sign that the team that will be doing a big-money deal for a player on the open market.

By now everybody should realize the Cowboys are following their stated plan before free agency. They are sitting back and letting the market come to them. They liked defensive tackle Stephen Paea but not at the $5 million a year he got from the Washington Commanders. They liked Davon House, but not at the $6 million a year price tag the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him.

By the end of the week, the prices start to fall if they are not starting to fall already.

ALL that means is ROMO is another year older...There is no silver lining to this so please dont spin it that way...MURRAY IS A HUGE LOSS and dont try and kid yourself that it isnt. This team was on to something last year and now??? AND here is the bigger question...what do you think this does to other free agents seeing how we treated MURRAY??

He's replaceable imo.

Im upset that we let a young LB like Bruce Carter go.

Dallas needs to put their money in OL and DL though. That's where we should spend money.. And Peterson too of course.

Maybe I'm alone, but I love what we're doing this offseason. We're not handing out money to borderline players who do nothing to build the strength of the team. We're managing our cap effectively knowing that we need to sign Dez to a long-term contract while keeping our options open for June 1st cuts.

Total 180 degree turn from how we've operated before which, as you may know, yielded no SB's and enough playoff wins to count on one hand.

What's it going to be then, eh?

June 1st cuts are not what they used to be as most teams are getting better at managing the cap.

Now there is more activity right before the league year begins, which we have basically sat out.

I'm a huge Murray supporter or was. I don't see how he was treated badly. He was told here is our parameters, go test the market and well talk.
I don't see any thing else that happened, accept what both sides said they would do. It didn't work out.

Did you see how Chip Kelly treated McCoy, Jackson, Maclin, etc? It's not stopping free agents from signing in Philly.

Article does not mention Murray so it is possible for an additional comp pick.

ALL i am trying to say is take your shot when you have the opportunity!!! And sitting here saying the EAGLES can have him is the most ridiculous and absurd statement i have seen!! THe homers trying to spin this in a positive light talking about picks is amazing to me. HOW LONG DO THINK ROMO has LEFT!!!! And just in case anyone missed it..MURRAY was hugely helpful defensively by keeping them off the field and burning up clock..So again i say HUGE LOSS and stop trying to spin it as to where the COWBOYS are better off without him...Take the homer crap some place else.

There isn't a player we've lost that I'd want back at the price range they've left for. And that included Murray at 6M+.

Just curious...were you in the 4-12 camp last year?
Honest question

I thought they would win 7 games max. Also, Jerry thought it would be a bad year.

You saw 12-4? What about the year before? You saw 8-8?
