IRVING, Texas -- The second full day of free agency starts today. Maybe today is the day the Dallas Cowboys make a deal in free agency, and we’re not talking about DeMarco Murray.
But if there is an upside to what has happened to the Cowboys so far in free agency, it is what could happen in 2016. By losing Justin Durant, Jermey Parnell, Dwayne Harris and Bruce Carter in free agency, the Cowboys stand to earn four or five compensatory picks next year.
It will be contingent on how many free agents they sign and for how much money, but there isn’t a sign that the team that will be doing a big-money deal for a player on the open market.
By now everybody should realize the Cowboys are following their stated plan before free agency. They are sitting back and letting the market come to them. They liked defensive tackle Stephen Paea but not at the $5 million a year he got from the Washington Commanders. They liked Davon House, but not at the $6 million a year price tag the Jacksonville Jaguars signed him.
By the end of the week, the prices start to fall if they are not starting to fall already.
