Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

I’m looking over his entire body of work last 4 years. Last year to me isn’t a good comparison with Dak out.

Here’s a stat for you. We have 7 sacks in 6 games. Only 2 teams have less.

We can spin stats to spur whatever narrative we want but if you don’t see a difference in this defense from previous years with Micah then I can’t help ya. Believe what you will. This is how I see it.
So in other words you dont have anything to back up your thread title other than "the eye test."

And the fact we have worst defense in the league. And arguably IMO the worst in this era for Cowboys. So far anyway.

We all are here to provide our opinions. If you don’t think this is the worst Cowboys defense you’ve seen in recent years. Ok lol

I've asked a couple times, crickets. Losing Lewis and DLaw hurt a ton also.
Sorry I’ve been out at my homecoming high school game tonite.

Yes, there were other casualties to this defense. No doubt. And all contributing factors.

And to reiterate, our D was 28th last year w/ him. Exactly how did his loss devastate us?
Devastate was used with intent to describe devasting to our season not just the defense.

A better word would probably be derailed the defense.

Bottomline is this defense is worse than last year. And yes, there is other contributing factors.

Dallas defense finished the year 2024 ranked #32 (dead last) in total defense. How does anyone devastate the previous years worse defense in the league?

The lowest scoring offense in 2024 was the Cleveland Browns. The lowest scoring offense in the NFL for 2025 currently is the Cleveland Browns. I'm super afraid with the recent release of Joe Flacco. It could devastate their offense.

Dont get too wrapped up in one word. You’re basically responding to my title instead of entire OP which places it in better context.

Again , if you don’t think or see this years defense as worse ok. Lead your narrative. I’ll stick with mine.

And if you don’t think Parsons helps our pass rush and defense providing more to build on , preach on.

I understand but these huge contracts for our most talented players are often over dramatized in media.

After a huge signing bonus( 44 million) his cap hits this year about 9 million , 19 in 2026, then 26 in 2027. Like most of these big deals the weight is on back end of deal and why they are usually restructured, renegotiated or simply walk in FA.

But it’s very rare for a talent of his level not to be resigned after Rookie contract . It’s more common a departure after 2nd contract due to Cap casualty or underperformance.

But this departure didn’t have anything to do with performance , Cap hit or casualty. We had every intention and intent to make him one of if not highest paid defensive players . And the fact we received 2 1st rounders in 11th hour a week before season begun punctuated how Elite talent he is.

The difference to 41 which we initially were alleged offered and 47 which he signed for is very minimal over 4 years and signing bonus which allows teams to minimize impacts to yearly Cap hits. Not including fact the Cap goes up about 10% each year.

We’ll see how this shakes out and our use of these picks but the effects and impacts this season are already being noted. The lingering effects moving forward TBD.

Fans have taken it upon themselves to declare the failed contract negotiations as some sort of indication we are now in rebuild mode which I’ve maintained throughout this deal I would have supported if that was our intent going in early on in offseason. And as you’ve suggested we could have traded others or moved on as well since they probably wouldn’t be around anyway once total rebuild is complete.

So, if Jethro is still All In that this team he sees as a contender with Dak and offense he invested heavily in and uses our resources as such then it certainly would seem logical to have resigned Parsons and continued to attempt to add pieces around him.

I’m basing my thoughts on what our owner is actually doing and saying not what we hope he’s going to do or what we think needs to be done. And I don’t expect a rebuild of any sorts as most fans think we need until Dak is done.
Nice post

Dallas was awful on defense because they had awful players.
Injuries just made the obvious lack of depth apparent.

Dallas currently has maybe 3 good defensive players.
On defense you are only as good as your weakest link because offenses get to call the plays.

Dallas does not have a legit starting NFL LB save the guy out injured for almost a full season.
Tthey have a decent box safety if you keep him there and a decent high safety that is now out injured.
They have a nickel CB who is not good outside and a guy outside who got paid and mentally retired.
Our depth is so bad at CB we just rotate undrafted free agents in, and it all looks pretty much the same.

Our DL is shallow as can be inside and real young on the outside.

This defense could use Micah to reach elite as long as he brought about 5 Packers defenders back with him.

Absolutely, it's worse, but since it was already bad last year, don't see how it makes that much difference. Maybe win 8 games instead of 5-6, but that's pointless. We are not a playoff team w/ or w/o Parsons.

Well, I’d rather have him to build on moving forward. Good to hear we agree this is the worst. Last year ImO didn’t matter with Dak out.

And if defense was to improve with top offense the results could be more favorable staying in contention for playoffs.

I’d argue that is worthwhile. I’d also agree we probably aren’t a playoff team this year with or without him. But I also didn’t know our offense would be this good . And that we’d actually have a RB.

I just can’t agree in letting your best defensive player go unless you’re in a total rebuild mode which we aren’t while Dak is in his prime.

Jethro even still believes we can win now. So regardless what we think that’s the direction we will go.

And the children in the media will laud this as a bad trade but those people will almost certainly appear to be very wrong in about 2 years.
We've got 30 years that says otherwise. I seriously doubt that anyone doubting the JonesBoys is going to be "very wrong" in 2 years, or ever.

Wait till Jerry panic trades away two of those picks and gets fleeced doing it.

You should've listened to me on Javonte Williams.

Big time game for Parsons yesterday. Reading a report of the game (which I have not watched yet) he was the difference maker with 3 sacks and constantly collapsing the pocket.

I'm still so annoyed he was traded, I'm convinced if we had kept him we would be talking about a deep playoff run.

For perspective, he made a difference against Jacoby Brissett.

And even if GB is ultimately successful with him, that doesn't mean we would have had the same success.

He's a weapon in the pass rush, but he wasn't going to really move the needle for this team. This team needed an infusion of talent-- draft capital and cap resources.

Our defense sucks, but I think to pin that all on the departure of Parsons is mistaken. We also lost Lawrence, Lewis, & Kendricks, and we have a worse DC. Tthis is honestly just continuing the trend of declining defensive play since the 23 season.

I disagree. Without Parsons, Green Bay would have lost this week.

This is a rare season, when if you can get in the play-offs you have a shot. Yes an infusion of talent is needed but there are no dominant teams. Our DEF scheme, talent etc is poor and needs upgrading. But when you have an offense like ours, you have a shot to win each week. Say what you like about Parsons, but he is a difference maker, a rare talent that GM's want on their team.

This has been a week in my opinion that moves the needle towards 'we should have kept Parsons'. Maybe by the end of the season it will be different. But watching Dak, I think we should have been all in and by that I mean extending Parsons.
