Are J. Witten and D. Ware on the downside of their careers?

Two hall-of-famers. I don't want to state a stance, I just want to see the discussion and everyones points of view since this seems to be alluded to in plenty of posts.

Of course they are, and so is everyone else that are the same age and play the same position.

They are not on the up-swing of their careers for sure. I think both could play a few more years but in reduced roles. I don't see Ware ever being a full-time player anymore, his body is just breaking down. Witten may have longer than Ware but his role needs to be reduced as well or those same nagging injuries will start to mount up quickly.

Yeah definitely on the "downside"

But the real question is.. How many more years can they keep producing at a relatively high level? And are they worth what we would have to pay them?

Idk. I don't want to give up on either just yet.

But I understand its a business.

Witten looks like he is in pain when he is running. He is beyond slow. Ware has been slowed by injuries so it is hard to tell to be perfectly honest. I will reserve judgement on Ware until he is 100% healthy.

He may never be 100% again.

Yup. They can still be productive players but no longer among the best at their position. This is a young man's game now

Of course they are. Any player their age is.

So is Peyton. So is Brady. So is Brees.

Kind of how aging works.

Sarge, after the last season and this one, we can never count on him to be healthy.
It's not like he had one small freak injury, it's his whole body starting to break down.
He needs to be offered a reduced salary or cut this off season.
I hate to sound cold, because D. Ware is a high character guy and has been an awesome player,
but with the salary cap, we are going to have to make the tough decisions.

I don't disagree with anything you've said.

I have been saying the same , Witten still has his smarts but the body has tightened up, for the last year and half his yards after contact is almost nil and he never eludes anyone. It's a shame but we should trade him when he still has some value and hope Escobar with one year of nfl training will become half the blocker Jason was , while better in catching . Hanna should be a speed guy and shud be used catch the ball than his blocking.

Ware is declining too , but I will wait until he is healthy to judge

I think all 3 QB's you mentioned are not looking like they are on the downside of anything. But to each his own.
