Are J. Witten and D. Ware on the downside of their careers?

Two hall-of-famers. I don't want to state a stance, I just want to see the discussion and everyones points of view since this seems to be alluded to in plenty of posts.

Here is my hope: I hope Jerry Jones starts implementing the "Branch Rickey way" of running a team.
Branch Rickey always said....'Its better to get rid of a player a year too early, rather than a year too late".

I think Jerry's way has been a big problem. With old, past their prime players...Jerry seems to always want to ring the rag dry. Its okay to toss away the rag with a little water left in it.

are you unware how age works? or is this the first time you have seen sports in this depth? im confused. Are you thinking they were to stay young forever?

Ware is 31, not exactly an old man. In fact, Jason Hatcher is 31 and is having his best year yet.

I will reserve judgement on Ware until he is 100% healthy...

And when will that be? That stinger/nerve issue is just not going to go away. Imagine playing NFL football when you can't lift your arm.

They are not on the up-swing of their careers for sure. I think both could play a few more years but in reduced roles. I don't see Ware ever being a full-time player anymore, his body is just breaking down. Witten may have longer than Ware but his role needs to be reduced as well or those same nagging injuries will start to mount up quickly.

Ware appears to be breaking down and his 2014 base salary is 12.25M.

Witten plays almost 100% of the offensive snaps and his 2014 base salary is a more reasonable 5M.

Keeping Ware for 2014 at 12.25M is probably not a good football decision.

Ware has also been a full-time starter his entire career, as opposed to Hatcher who is currently having his first, full year as a true starter.

Lots more wear and tear on Ware...that rhymes.

I agree and glad you said that, because i get tired of "the youth movement, the youth movement"

that said, as i have stated before, i wish they wouldnt start Witten and keep him with fresh legs to do what he does best when he needs to do it. Ware is an emotional guy, and i feel Dallas would see his best if they put their best foot foward, since Garrett is allergic to success, that wont happen.

If this was another coach with a winning record, I think Ware would be competiting for the record.

for some people, the mere fact you are having a career year, (mainly because SPencer isnt who we thought he was, and Ware gets doubled) that hatcher is gaining because of that alludes a lot of fans,

We are a year late with both, which is unfortunate because I don't feel Ware is done, but at 12.5 next year...

Of course they are, it's a tough physical game and it takes it's toll on everyone. They can continue to be great if the staff can help them and manage their snaps, much like Coach Pops does with his aging Spurs team. Especially in the case with Ware, maybe making him a situational pass rusher and letting him do what he does best. That would keep him fresh and cut down some of the wear and tear especially now with the switch to a 4-3.

Even limiting some of Witten's snaps might prove beneficial. It would give a little more playing time to help the young TE's develop, break Tony of some of his Witten-Only moments and develop more chemistry and confidence in the youngsters.

Money is going to be the real issue. Can you pay situational players the kind of money they make now?

To paraphrase Toby Keith
They might not be as good as they once were, But they can be as good once as they ever were

I will- in turn paraphrase Mike and the Mechanics when I say:

No way Witten is worth even 5M at this point. That is money that could be converted into FA OL/DL/S in some kind of way. He is a borderline liability to this offense even this season.

Almost $13 million for Ware next year................................Bye.

I think he restructures even though it will add another lop-sided year in the future. I think they will give him one more chance if he heals 100% and restrict the number of plays he is in.

Romo will definitely restructure and who knows with Miles.

You are probably right, Ware and Romo will both probably restructure.

As for Miles "I like watching the games from the hot tub" Austin...............................dude is so gone.
